Vibrations from center top vent of the dashboard

    Hi AZ,

Recently I've been hearing this rather anoying buzzing coming from the dashboard center top (windshield) vent under heavy acceleration or going over rougher patch of roads.

If I hit the dashboard's top with the palm of my hand, the buzzing will stop. But that hasn't been proven effective permanently as the issue does come up from times to times. In the winter time, my car sounds like a wooden ship as it creaks from everywhere...but I'm cool with that.

I searched AZ, Google and there was a thread where one member discuss about the same issue but never was a solution mentionned or put forth.

I'm still under CPO, but have been flagged TD1 due to being APR stage 1. There's obviously a deductible which I don't just want to fork out withou attempting to find the issue myself.

BTW, its not the HVAC motors nor flaps that are creaking...its a metallic vivrations that can reproduce when I tap on the dahsboard.

    Loooking for your help

    Patrick

I have something similar going on in my car depending on the outside temp. I smack the dash a few times (to no avail) and then turn the radio up.

Well, I'm subscribing, since I have the same rattle/buzz in the exact same location. I swear it grew louder once I had my podia boost gauge installed. Is the dash top easy to remove? If so, I may try that and see what I can tighten down underneath.

I don't know but it could be a cable hold down or what ever you call it could have come loose right there.... Just an idea.

lol yeah, the dash is real easy to remove........ I just had to go through this.

    1. Remove trim and tons of plastic pieces surrounding the dashboard, including the driver's side tray.
    2. Remove driver's side airbag
    3. Remove steering wheel
    4. Remove passenger side airbag
    5. Remove shift cover
    6. Remove radio
    7. Remove HVAC controls
    8. Remove ash tray
    9. Remove glovebox
    10. Remove center armrest
    11. Unscrew 10 screws to remove center console
    12. Move center console back
    13. Remove cluster
    14. Remove a bunch of other screws and remove a ton of connections
    15. Pull off the dashboard and see what awaits you

I've got it down to a few hours each for dissassembly and reassembly at this point.

Edit: I have lots of pictures if anybody wants more details.

The rattle in my dash was coming from where the dash meets the windshield in the very middle. It seems to be temperature dependent and will come and go as the black dash expands and contracts with temp change. I have found that wedging something (i used a gift card) inbetween the dash and the glass has gotten rid of my noise. Everyone might have a different issue causing the problem but this fixed it for me.

Hahah I was really nervous the first time I was taking it all apart. It took me a couple days to figure it all out but now I've got it all memorized and it's not so bad. I just hope to never have to do it again.

I just had to post when I saw Biged243 ask how difficult it was

I wrapped the interior trim with 3M 1080 brushed black metallic vinyl wrap. I'll post pictures once everything is fixed and put back together.

Alright, I'm on a business trip but I'll be home this weekend. I'll try to make it sort of like a diy.
