    Steering Rack Questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Recently I came across an RS4 steering rack (same as the S4) in the classifieds. I am trying to confirm the major differences in certain steering racks as I have came across threads where people have purchased a steering rack that doesn't fit in their car. Before i make this purchase i want to make sure i am purchasing this rack and it will fit in my car.

So what are the main differences in steering rack for the B6 vs the B7? Thanks.

i'm not certain. i would like to know the difference between what my 2003 has vs the ones you listed. it looks like the ones listed were simply a revision of sorts as the ending 'K' and ending 'L' seem to indicate this.

Servotronic racks fit in non Servotronic cars, but the circuit harness and control module needs to be installed. Easy to do. Only ZF racks will be Servotronic, Koyo racks are not.

The B6 RS4 rack will fit the B6 A4/S4 except the control harness and module must be added too. B7 racks fit into the B6 as well, since the body is the same under the sheet metal.

OK. Thanks for the info. How much does the harness and module cost?

also just to make sure: STEERING RACK IN QUESTION my car is a 2003 B6 3.0

EDIT: ECS says my steering rack would be a ZF does this mean the RS4 would fit without any problems?

FYI, I installed a servotronic rack in my B6(came from a B7 3.2). In my opinion, it is fine without the servotronic hooked up at all(I figured if it was too heavy, I would suck it up and finish that portion). In a parking lot, I have ZERO issues turning the wheel(I can still 1 finger the steering wheel from a stop...).

A lot of B7 guys pull the relay (640) for the servotronic to disable it. They call it the 640 mod. Never tried it as I actually LIKE the servotronic, but you can safely use a Servotronic rack without the servotronic software I would assume based on Jiffy's comment above.

How do you know if your car has servotronic or not? At rackdoctor.net, if I search under Audi and look up 2003 - 2004 for example, it has the option for servotronic or the rack without it. As far as brands go, isn't ZF the more updated version and replaces Koyo as the rack to go with?

Well its fairly obvious when driving it. I'm sure theres a PRcode but I don't know what it is.

Basically at parking lot speeds you steering is very light, at highway speeds (or anywhere above 20mph really) the steering is artificially heavy. Some people hate it, but I don't mind it.
