    walbro 450 E85 pump

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just thought I'd let you guys know that the new walbro 450 E85 pump fits in our baskets. I had a 255 in there and removed it to check for fitment for this new pump. Fits exactly the same with the o-rings that held in the 255 and seems to be the strongest fuel pump on the market for our stock basket use. Plus, it's E85 compatible! I didn't go through the whole install process since I opted for a fuel cell, but just thought I'd send along the info. I only installed it in the basket and dropped into the tank. All seemed well at that point. I have a friend with a Supra that just put down over 650whp on E85 with this exact pump so the flow is there without going to the extremes on fueling systems.

what numbers are you hoping for with stock fuel lines? are you changing those out as well?

edit - i see you are going with a fuel cell, so i am assuming you wont be using stock lines.

I wish I wouldve held out for this pump, I bought the 400 and now im worried I will run out of fuel around 600-650whp

might just buy another 400 and dump it in my tank and never worry about it again :)

I posted weeks ago about this so I am wondering why this is such news to you all .

I am running this pump on my allroad with tials 770s. If it fits allroad, it will fit S4 with ease as C5 platform has less vertical space in the tank. So far tuned up to 570whp (on gas though) and there is no ghost of underfueling. This pump truly solves most fueling problems for 600ish whp 2.7t, now I am not sure if you pull it off on E85 but who knows... you might need to upgrade lines though with so much higher flow requirements.

    Cheers.

I was thinking about using this pump with another on a hobbs switch. Not using stock fuel lines at all. After looking at modifying the fuel hat to work with an lines, I just decided to put a fuel cell in with 2 bosch 044 pumps and be done with it. -8 feed to the 034 fuel rails.

thanks OP, for guys wanting to go all out with 770's and stock fuel rails and E85, I wonder where this would put you... with RS4 intake and other additions, id assume it would be over 600whp, if not close to it..

I am sure that would work cherry. My only reason for not going that route is I want to be able to keep pushing the power #'s up and up until I reach my ultimate goal. I hate having to redo stuff and I wouldn't trust a fuel rail setup that didn't feed each side equally at the power levels I want to go towards. Product developement and block/head building advancement will hopefully keep progressing with some of the members in the community. As long as the cheap whiney babies don't bankrupt the companies that ACTUALLY support us due to chinese purchases:)

putting this in today....is there anything tricky to the wiring or does black go with red from the plug to the pump?

Use a digital multi meter to verify, don't just guess.

    But Audi wiring is

Audi black to fuel pump positive
Audi brownish-red to fuel pump negative

Any concern with the current draw of this pump?

It comes up on 20A at 6 bar.

    Anything to compensate?

If you intend to stay in hgh boost for prolonged amount of time, put down your own direct wiring and switch relay from stock fuel pump voltage feed. Otherwise just bump the fuse to 20A and you should be all set for occasional boosting.

Another question for you guys that have already installed this....what did you use for fuel line from the pump to the top of the tank? the line supplied in the install kit is too short. I've went to some local auto stores but the fuel line they have to offer compared to what came in the kit is worlds of quality apart and I dont wanna have the hose bust or deteriorate.....

I am not sure what b5 has for line but in allroad I used the stock line. With a bit of heat gun action I convinced it to slip over pump's outlet.

Yessir phila. Run a standard 30 amp 4 pin relay direct wire from the battery. You might get away with stock but my findings show nearly 3 more amps with the standalone relay. Especially you guys running 25 -35psi with a 1 to 1 regulator you are pushing stock circuit to the max. I don't know about alone here but to much current near my fuel pump is the last thing I want.

Doesn't AMD use some sort of one fuse relay straight to the pump?? This will def be an option for my next build, whether I keep a pump in the tank (walbro 255lph) feeding this pump, or even this solely in the tank, I'd think 600 whp on E85 would be feasible, even if upgraded fuel rail is needed.

Just a heads up if any of you are DIY'ing the inside fuel line, if you don't go with the hard ribbed type of in-tank specified hose (similar to the stock), MAKE SURE you go with SAE 30R10 rated submersible hose, as the standard types of rubber fuel hoses have rubber outer sheathing that is not necessarily rated to withstand exposure to gasoline/ethanol.
