    Hi,

Hm, thats interesting. I always thought that the interval would be more like 50-55k miles. Btw, It has been 3.5 yrs since I did the Timing belt job.

    Thanks

I got mine changed the first time at 90k miles, getting it changed again at 160k miles. I'd go with the same relative time frame as AudiNFS posted. I would however check it periodically, look through the cover and see if it is starting to crack. If you see cracks, get it changed ASAP. It would only add a couple minutes to an oil change to just take a quick look at it and see if it still looks ok.

If I recall correctly, it should be done every 75,000 miles. I changed mine on my 3.0 the first time at 80K miles and will change again between 150-160K miles.

My owner's manual says 105k miles. That's for my '01 2.8L C5. I agree with imnuts though, with an older car, it just makes sense to check it periodically and I would do mine at about 75k or every 5 years going forward.

Don't forget that the t-belt interval is NOT just mileage. It's also TIME. No matter how many miles are on the belt, it should be changed every 8-10 years or so.

Also don't forget Audi sometimes has different intervals for the Timing belt and water pump. Hilarious right? I think I remember seeing the 3.0 TB interval at 85k and the water pump at 105k. Maybe it was the 2.8? Either way a total joke. Most people should Shoot for about every 85k miles for normal driving to be safe. Because you'll put it off for 5 to 10k miles if nothing else is wrong...then you're @ 90k and getting close.

Is this intended to be a joke? The OP said it was last changed roughly 40K miles ago - even a very conservative estimate would place the next change 20K+ miles in the future unless the belt shows abnormal wear and/or cracks.

I just did mine after 4.5 years about 72k cause the water pump went out and inspecting the old belt it didn't look worn at all but it was the Kevlar one from ecs... Still good to do it thought... Haha it was an experience that's for sure

Those replies were obviously jokes - yours was less obvious, and if the OP took your "advice," he'd be needlessly spending a significant amount of money. I realize that a lot of people on AZ like to be snarky, but for many of us (esp those who can't DIY a T-belt), a T-belt job is a pretty big expense, and dispensing bad advice for something like that just rubs me the wrong way.

The 3.0 timing belt job is especially costly at the dealer. Even independent shops the price tends to be a lot more than what the 1.8T folks would pay.

For the 1.8T engine... best to do a full timing belt change every 60k to 70k miles.

For the 3.0 engine... best to do the change every 80k to 90k miles.

75k for the 1.8T and 100k for the 3.0. Or 8 years for both.

The 3.0 timing belt isn't that hard to do but rather time consuming.

lol. I was gonna say "75k, unless your name is Waldo in which case you only do it at the absolute last moment before the motor a-splodes".
