Trick/How to Remove Fender Liner Clips

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey all, this may seem to be a stupid question, but any tricks on removing the plastic clips that hold the (front) fender liners in place? I'm afraid I am going to break them when I just try to pry them off.

I have searched and know about the bumper removal threads, but they don't give much (any) guidance on specifically how to remove the clips. Thank you all in advance...

You'll see one side of it has a "bendable" ridge.....bend that up with needle nose pliers and slide the clip in the opposite direction.

Perfect, thank you cory! Is the much force required or is it pretty smooth once the ridge is lifted up?

Not all that much force....the clip has guides on it. It makes much more sense after you see it off the car.

Here's the underside of the clip to give you an idea....the upper right side of this picture is the section that you bend up so it can slide.

I had difficulty at first too - the key is bending them back enough so that that little tab (about 2:00 in the photo) is up far enough that it doesn't catch on the pin you are sliding the clip off of - the tab is the retaining feature. The clips are kind of springy - so you bend them up and they tend to spring back down (mine did at least) - for the tricky ones you can get a eyeglass or very small screwdriver under the tab to hold it up a bit. If the tab doesn't catch you are just sliding it off the pin, so the force required is small unless the fender liner is pushing on it.

    Hope that helped.

Sorry to hijack your thread but are these the same clips everyone mentions when people claim their car is rubbing or is this for the removal of the bumper? I'm more interested in the rubbing issues with the fender clips if anyone would like to elaborate on which those are. Thanks!

Sure did, thanks for the help! Sounds like it is mostly technique and not force.

There is one clip right at the top of the fender liner toward the outside edge. When lowered and running low ET (wheels or spacers) this is probably the first thing to rub when the suspension is compressed - removing it would buy you a bit. I'm just on stock sport suspension and "conservative" spacers. Maybe someone who knows more will chime in - thinking you would need to remove the stud/pin and not just the clip though...

    +1

Would like to know if this is the same clip people remove to avoid rubbing.

Thank you for this! You saved the life of a few clips. It is really a simple mechanism once you manage to remove one to see the underside.

Glad I saw this. I couldn't get mine off right away either when putting my grille on so I just worked around them.

Thank you for this. I was about 5 seconds away from just breaking mine until I saw to use needle nose pliers.
