I've got a good solution for bluetooth streaming, works like magic, can still make phone calls. Probably one of the best 'mods' I've done to this car in terms of personal pleasure. Best part? Pretty cheap too.

So, all you need is the 20 dollar receiver?

edit: nvm, it says the cable is modified. I wonder what is done.

I would say much better. When i used to plug my iphone there, quality was fine but didn't have enought clarity but when my ipad was connected, i heard a weird faint noise from the speakers. Bluetooth streaming fixed all those issues for me. I stream Pandora quite a bit and quality is superb. I can finally enjoy my B&O system :)

Just read the site again so it changes it from a 'iOS' device cable to a 'aux' cable? Does that mean that no track data shows up on the MMI like it normally would? Not trying to nit pick but sounds like you get the B8.5 functionality w/ streaming Music + Phone and retain 'meta' data on MMI i.e. I can see/select my tracks on MMI and it will push it through via BT.

Right, on the screen it just says aux cable connected. All functions have to be performed from a phone, I can deal with that no problem. I would love to get the B8's 3G+ but can't justify the 3K pricetag for a different layout and a few stock options, bluetooth being one of them. Maybe someday...:)

So even if I have the stock AMI interface cable that the dealer included with the car I still need the whole modified cable and reciever package, right? The receiver won't plug into the Audi AMY interface cable?

So once it's connected which button do you select on the radio module....Media? Does that include the "Aux" input as a choice?

It isn't 3K to to upgrade to the 3G+. More like 1350 with old controls and around 1700 with new controls. send [email protected] an email if you are interested. Totally worth it, IMO.

    What helix said.

Plus that solution posted above doesn't autopair. You have to pair every time you want to use it. Still cool though (and very accessible), if you don't mind that.

No auto-pair sucks. Does the bluetooth for phone calls still auto-pair when you enter the vehicle? I don't mind enabling the bluetooth for streaming music, but for phone calls it would get very annoying to have to enable every time I enter my car.

So even if my car came with the Audi AMI iPod interface cable I still need the whole package including the cable and receiver, right?

Yes, bluetooth for phone still works exactly the same. No need to pair/unpair/switch, etc.

Thanks. Just placed my order. I assume this works on 2103 S4 without the $3K Nav option, right? If so, this is the best and most cost effective streaming audio solution I have seen. Look forward to being able to listen to Pandora in my S4. Plus I can then cancel Sirius (which I don't really like that much) after the first three months runs out, saving even more money.

Intended for the upper-level 3G MMI in the B8 (and other Audi's). Don't know if it'll work in the B8.5 with newer base MMI.

    Folks,

I have 2010 Audi A4 with 2G MMI and iPod/Bluetooth and want to play Pandora and other stuff from my Samsung Galaxy S (Android phone) via Bluetooth streaming.
I have a spare AMI cable for iPod/iPhone and my plan is as follows:
    1. Get Samsung Bluetooth Headset HS3000
    2. Modify my AMI cable as described here and hook it up with HS3000
    3. Since in Ext AUX mode 2G MMI does not power the connected device, I would like to install a cigarette lighter power adapter in the glove box with a switched 12v power and use a USB cigarette lighter charger connected to HS3000 via USB-microUSB cable

Does it sound like a good plan?

    A few additional questions:
    1. I am looking towards better audio-quality and active pairing, hence HS3000 choice. Any pointers where to buy this device (newegg shows it is out of stock currently, any other pointers?)
    2. Where would you recommend getting a switched 12v power from in the glove box? Any write-up pointer for that?

I decided to roll the dice and replace my existing set up with this product: http://www.audia2dp.com/ The old set up required the following:

    - USB 12v car charger
    - USB cable,
    - 12v socket hard wired into the glove box the adjacent fuse box
    - Bluetooth transmitter
    - MMI to headphone adapter.

The new set up, requires the following which is all included:

    - Bluetooth transmitter
    - MMI adapter with both 3.5mm jack and power split off

This set up, although on the pricey side, results in a much cleaner, clutter free solution. The main reason I flipped the switch is that the MMI with this custom cable allows the MMI to power the device. With recently experiencing a low battery situation because of a minor dealer mistake, I decided to make this change oppose to having my old device connected 24/7.

    FYI, the combo here:

    http://a2dp4audi.netmagi.com/

Will also replace everything you listed prior with just (2) pieces:

    1) modified cable
    2) 30-pin receiver

    . . . for considerably less money

Both solutions should work well and follow a similar principle of modifying the "type" of cable MMI sees to AUX, and implementing a way of receiving bluetooth A2DP streaming.

Either way, very happy to hear you got rid of the "rat's nest" of cables and doo-dad's in your glove box :) Pity Audi couldn't get this "right" till the 2013's.

    Spider,

You should be able to piggy-back any of the fused circuits in the passenger side fuse block (it's the cover on the end of the dash normally concealed by part of the passenger door when it's shut). Make sure you are tapping the "fused" leg of the circuit.

Rich, thanks a lot for the suggestion! And I actually considered going with your http://a2dp4audi.netmagi.com/ solution and that's where I learned I need extra power for my 2G+Bluetooth mod (thanks!). But since a) I have an extra AMI iPod cable and b) I like having fun doing (or screwing up ) things myself, I am going to to try my plan A. If things go wrong my plan B is to go with your cable+receiver.

Agilis, as I understand http://www.audia2dp.com will not work for me out of the box because I still need to power up my Bluetooth receiver since I have 2G MMI.

    Hey guys, can anyone please confirm whether or not this would work in my car;

I've heard it only works on certain set-ups but have not been able to confirm either way. I have an 09 A4 Premium, non-nav, Concert radio with AMI in glovebox.

Please let me know if you know! I would love to stream audio via bluetooth and prefer the "OEM" look. Thanks in advance!

edit: Sorry guys, I didn't realize that I was in the S4 forum (long day lol)...When I can afford one I'll start posting here, but in the meantime I hope you guys can help me out. Thanks!

Yes, it should work for our 2G MMI in P- models, here is the link to this device on ECS, part #4F0051510J but it says "No Longer Available".
Just googled and found one offering priced close to $200 with shipping. And an interesting comment in the review section: "Terrible item. Very poor audio quality. songs skip and lag. I had a Blackberry Stereo Audio Bluetooth Adapter which outputs to a 3.5mm a/v plug which worked flawlessly."
Makes me thinking I'd rather go with the retrofitted AMI-iPod cable and BlackBerry Music Gateway (already bought on ebay, it is coming soon, yay).

I was just monitoring ebay for "BlackBerry Music Gateway" for a couple of weeks and finally won one of the items offered by a private seller.
Here is the search query for ebay.
If you switch to "sold listings" you should grasp the idea of how much this unit costs in used or brand new condition. Weird you can't buy from big resellers like amazon if you ask me...

They are definitely hard to find, but Best Buy Mobile shows them in stock. This is not actually Best Buy, but subcontracted out to "Smartphone Experts".

Great find because used BlackBerry Music Gateways are often sold for more than 40 bucks on fleabay! Especially with free shipping for getting the combo (BlackBerry Music Gateway + BlackBerry micro-USB charger that you actually need for powering the adapter for 2G MMI).

Is anyone still making and selling the flyout cables that have micro usb and 3.5 connections?

I've been trying to dig through this (and many other threads) trying to see if an option exists to get bt streaming in my '11 with AMI (no mmi, or at least I don't think. Theres the ami ipod cable from the glove box, b and o sound, but no nav/backup/etc). The option from this site looks perfect, http://a2dp4audi.netmagi.com/, however it does not work with non mmi vehicles (no power to device in aux mode).

Was there a solution posted earlier for use with the blackberry music gateway that rectified this?

    Thanks

Hi it's Rich from the site you linked :)

With no MMI, regardless of the solution you go with, you have to provide power from another source as non-MMI 3G systems don't provide power in AUX mode. The additional pieces required to provide power (or hardwire for power) are not that much more. I cover them at the bottom of my FAQ here:

I did see, that however I do not believe there is a 12v outlet in the glovebox, which would mean running the cable from the cigarette lighter (nearest one I think) back through the glovebox. I thought about this when debating whether or not to get a long AMI aux cord and have it coming out of the glovebox.

I thought I saw a custom cable that had a micro usb flyout and aux 3.5 plug. I am guessing it would have to be made from an ipod cable as its the only one with power and audio wires that would work with AMI only.

Also, what is the system I have referred to? It has cd slot, 1 sd card slot, AMI interface and thats it. Is it just the standard interface? EDIT: Its also an a4, not s4, didn't see that this thread was in the s4 section.

    Thanks

I would like to know this as well. I have a blackberry gateway that i want to use. Right now I have the setup from Rich and it works great but I am having issues with the bluetooth cutting in and out every few mins. I have used the blackberry gateway in my boat for playing music and I have never had any issues with it, so I would love to use it in my car.

I bought one of those as well but it does not have the right USB plug that fits into the blackberry gateway. And I can't find the right kind of adapter to make it work. What did you do?

do you have the new gateway or the old one? The older version uses a micro B while the new one uses a micro USB (slightly thinner profile).

Dropshadow, does that cable connect to the existing AMI Ipod cable, charge the blackberry gateway, AND receive audio from the AUX? That might just be the perfect solution if it does!
