This is for those of you that wanted better pictures of the eBay tails with the stock lens on them. All credit goes to unslanted for the work. He did a great job for a great price.

Also wondering if only the inside lights were swapped with the eBay ones and the outer shell was left stock... But that wouldn't be a lot of work at all...

I believe that was a different seller. I don't think these have any issues, but if they do, they have a 1-year warranty (I asked).

I really like these & wouldn't mind doing it.

But aren't they made "cheaply" and subject to fail soon?

Yes these are the eBay lights with the Stock lens attached to get rid of the black strip around it. the Audizine member "unslanted" did all my work. I did not want to take any chances with my lights so I gave them to him to do the surgery. The process isn't that difficult, I just don't trust myself to do it right. SO far I've had the lights for 3 months (modified for 1 month) and still no problem. No error codes either. The internals are from Rwerks15. The lens is my stock lens.

I did like the smoked ones but I thought they were too dark for my liking and wanted more contrast. Here they are when I had them. I ended up selling them to another user on here though.

But at long as ur in a state up north you are fine. In FL they WILL fail.

If they fail, then that's fine. It's a very easy install, so I'll put back in my stockers and ship the tail lights back for a full refund. At least I can say I tried something that I think looks really good (especially with the stock covers over them). It's summer now, so better to fail sooner than later!

I will be continuously checking them (especially when it gets hot). Of course I will try to avoid safety hazards and keep my stock tail lights in my car just in case until I can trust my set.

    Very true, Good luck!

EDIT: I am actually looking foward to hearing your review after a couple weeks....you never know I could have gotten a faulty set.... Right after install let the car sit outside from 7am-3pm and test them....thats when mine failed (when the car was too hot to physically hold your hand against)

well I actually bought clear LED ones with the hope Phil could mod them for me but that fell through when he was having a lot of issues fitting them up. I really wanted the LED look so I bought the Smoked red ones. Then after I bought them unslanted wrote me a message saying he would do the work for me. So i bought another set of stock tails so I wouldn't have down time on the car while he did the lights. (4 sets of tail lights total now) Sold the smoked red ones when I got my lights back from unslanted and now I have an extra set of stock tails and the current ones. I hope that makes sense lol. I'm just very impatient so I ended up with a bunch of lights.

@ Ink: I think I sold my lights to a guy in Florida. How did you know they were failing? Did they put out an error code or did someone tell you? I want to make sure I give him a heads up about this issue so nothing happens to him.

I will keep everyone updated after I receive and install them. I know many AZ'ers would like to trust these lights. I kind of just wish the LED's extended wider to the sides of the tail lights. Goodnight and thank you for posting rick!

    I previously explained the issue
They are failing when heat soaked due to the poor quality of the LED: At high temperature, due to dilatation, anode and cathode are too far to lit. Since the distance between the two is critical, it triggers a failure. They are soldered in series so if one fails.... It's called heat fading. After a while, the led shell becomes more rigid and the led cracks.
Once cooled down they will work again this is why, you will have really hard time to have them covered under warranty

    phil

    Looks great Rick!!

Since this thread I've gotten a few questions and requests for detailed pics via pm so here you go fellas

Yes I moved over the entire reverse light housing and rebuilt it on the new light, completely sealing off all light. It's perfectly lined up and flush behind the lens just like factory

    (led cluster reverse bulb lol)

no idea why it looks bluish with my kitchen light on

    from an angle

    straight on

This has been covered already in a previous thread. You have to start from scratch and build each set on your car because the oem lens is a lot thicker than the aftermarket.. I had to modify the housings to sit a few mm's more inward on the car, and reshape the surface where the lens will seat in order to get everything flush. I did not modify the lens at all. I also mounted the housings a few mm's higher on the car and the lens a little lower to keep the reflector strip on the lens from blocking the led's. Had to get the fitment absolutely perfect so it takes a lot of grinding and eyeballing

    Hope this helps guys

oh ya I used aprox 2mm bead of oem taillight sealant/adhesive...nothing fancy

To verify, if you just take the lights portion of the eBay ones and exchange the outer shell of the eBay ones with the oem ones, it will stick out too far due to the oem shell being thicker?

Anyone know what the difference is between the ebay Sedan vs. Avant tail lights are? They look to be the same shape, but even ECS' LED tails are different between the Sedan and Avant.

I am guessing that with enough grinding, the Avant process would be the same as decribed above, correct?

^i'm sure you could switch the lens of the avant with the same process, just make sure the lights are for an avant because the shape isn't the same

Ya by atleast 1/4in but we're only swapping lenses not the entire shell.. The reverse light housing I was referring to is just the little chrome box around the reverse bulb that sits behind the clear rectangle cutout. Look through the lens of your factory lights and you'll see it. I never knew it existed until I cut off the lens. It's not even that important but without it the area behind the clear rectangle cutout will be dark and it would all blend in. The clear part wouldn't be noticeable and when you put it in reverse the whole housing will light up instead of just the clear cut out.. See pics above

    Thanks for the compliments all

I've done 3 sets locally since feb.. Someone finally posted pics lol

What did you use to modify the housings and reshape the surface? And by doing this, does that mean you cant put oem lights back in since they won't be flush with the adjusted housings anymore?

Greensto- I used a small cutting wheel and sander bit on a dremel.. I'm not sure I understand the second part of your question... the car itself isn't modified so yes you can swap back to factory lights. The modded housing is the back side of the aftermaket lights, not the car itself

They are not the same shape. avant tail light are bigger and uglier. They seem to kept the same size as the B6 taillight.
