So ummm ya.... made another revision... this tune is starting to look VERY nice.... The car pulls really nice now...

this run was done slightly uphill in the poring rain kinda spinning (I barely have traction in 3rd as it is now from downlow) and netted me a pretty nice Accel. graph and 3.19 FATS..

Boost is @ max 25 psi... running W/M still...

    Teaser of the logs:

Almost a 3.19 FATS ;).. ECUx sometimes does that and stops right before 6500. Looking at the graph you would have been mid 3.2s crossing 6500 rpm.. Not that it matters.

Looking good though man must feel good to do this all yourself! The calculated EGT graph is looking a little steep no? I know EGTs don't read <945*C so those are just numbers derived from O2 sensors but still.

    Congrats

yeah there is something going on with my TQ/load... I'm assuming the EGT's are showing aggressive because of it.

I'm getting TQ control monitoring exceeded codes when I'm on the throttle around 25% TPS... the car wants to take of like crazy but then I go into hard limp and have to turn on/off the ignition.

    Gonna look into that today.

EDIT: Just remembered that the run was started right around 3k that pull instead of my usual 2400-2500 that's probably why the EGT curve looks that way.... although like I said I will still be looking into it.

Thats probably from those TQ management tweaks ....

P.S. your engine load is pretty high.. most I ever see is 200 for just a second, usually doesn't even get that high.

Have fun with that hard kill TQ Limit - it took us a LONG time to deal with those issues. Do have your N249 hooked up?

Thanks, it's all a part of the game :)

The N249 vale is connected but not hooked up to the DV's

Not sure if that points to that it has something to do with the N249 or not.. but I tried it unplugged totally and I still had the issue, but I guess it could also mean to try with it hooked up correctly (vac lines and all?).

I also tried lowering the TQ values in IOP and load values in IRL with no success other them making the car less aggressive.

So when the weather gets warmer I will just have to try a few things back to back and see what actually is causing this nonsense lol.

    Really?

    I've never been in a k04 car.

I have been in a mild tuned 91oct 20 psi gt2554 car. I thought it was NUTS! 450awhp

sounds like 605's for me in the future.

Man, I was laughing hysterically after he took me for a ride. There was honestly no words to describe as he was drifting in 2nd gear through the back roads while a bum down the street shakes his head haha.

How aggressive is your K04 car? Reason I ask is because his acceleration graph of third tells me that it pulls not quite as hard as my K04 car in the peak, then tapering down is about the same. Granted these turbos are not pushing themselves nearly as hard as mine are to create a similar curve, but leaving that from the equation it's not trumping a strong K04 car in terms of that accel. graph. I run a 23psi spike and tapering down to roughly 20-21 by redline.

I'd love to go for a ride in a 605 car to compare as well or do pulls with one but you'd be surprised to hear they aren't that easy to find even in CT, home of EPL!

Don't really want to clog his thread but me and Sascha have been tuning my car and working out problems from the few tunes we had a couple aggressive ones but as of now I have a mild tune of 21 psi. I feel as though my car obviously accelerates faster (it feels like it) since my K04s spools faster, but when I went for a ride in his car the boost comes on and just keeps pulling like a freight train and it was probably the best feeling in the world also he said this is a milder tune from his other aggressive ones. After next season I will definitely get Tial 605s :)

Sounds good.. Yeah the pull up top from the larger than K04 turbo cars is a lot of fun

sooo... got to my work last night around 9:00 completely unrelated to my car to look for some stuff, about 30 min after I pulled my car in and ended up being there till 4:00 in the morning working on it...

started by trying to open up the stock airbox opening for my 85mm. MAF, that didn't work out (routed right through part of the neck), so moved on to trying to dissect my dead TB that was informative but after taking it apart it was clear it was going to stay in pieces lol....

    then the real work began:

    - swapping out my inner floppy door handle that came from blittle/audis4parts.com.
    - then I fixed my OBD port in my bolster (I had hit it with my leg while logging and it cracked the tabs off of the bolster) by plastic welding on new tabs to keep it in place.
    - then I decided to pull my ashtray for a few reasons... last time I pulled it to do something in that area when I put it back it wouldn't latch closed anymore, the wires going in the ashtry for the meth controller and red switch (to turn on and off my carpc without the key) were causing the ashtry not to open/close properly, and the red switch for the carpc id a BAD idea because I can easily forget it in the on position and wake up to a dead battery.
    - completely removed the meth controller and red switch, rewired the carpc to proper accessory wire coming from ign switch, made red switch turn on/off meth controller.
    - while I was in the ashtray I always wanted a plexiglass surround, so I made one
    - while I had to take the wheel off to get at the ignition switch I test fitted the 2nd gen TT wheel
    - since the shifter was off I retrofitted my new shiftkob from a 2010 Audi S5

by the time I put everything back together it was around 3:45-4:00 and by the time I got home it was like 4:30... long night but feels great to fix all the little things in the car that has been bugging the hell out of me for the entire summer lol.

a few pics I snapped during the night...

Do you have any GPS based equipment to measure some times ?

I am really interested to see a 3-4 pull and a single 4th gear pull from 100-150 and 100-200km/h just so I have an idea what these turb'os do on a stock engine compared to my K04 car !

Great work so far, must be nice putting it all together and be able to tune it yourself !

no i don't have anything like that and likely I won't be doing any more performance runs or tuning for this year.. the car is going away soon for winter storage.

Next year maybe I can find someone in the area that has a V-box or similar.

Alright boys and girls... time to start collecting parts...

    The shopping list:

    X ATQ/AHA heads
    - Rods
    - ER or AMD SMICs
    - RS4 Airbox (top)
    - RS4 Y-pipe (maybe, might just have one made out of aluminum instead)
    - Extra IM for modding (porting and increased plenum volume)
    - 3" DPs to new exhaust system (either dual 3" or single 3.5", still undecided)
    - 2.0T coil conversion
    - 710N DV's
    - V8 rear brake upgrade parts
    - HPX MAF and housing

It's always been the plan to focus on efficiency.... don't' get me wrong, I'm very happy with how my car is performing for just throwing on a set of turbos. But knowing there is much untapped potential and knowing some of my parts aren't up to the task just gives me more of a reason to change it up.

Besides, other then swapping in the turbo's at the beginning of the year I haven't done shit to the car... it's kinda boring

Agreed. If you're doing built heads etc, I would throw rods in if I were you.

Also, if you don't have your heads in a little bit, I might have a pair for you when I pull them off my ATQ Passat. Might have an RS4 airbox for you as well.

I'll keep that in mind, but I am trying to souce the heads locally first as shipping the heads will be pretty expensive on it's own. AMC has a set of heads FS at this very time, but like said shipping costs

Rods are not on the list because I think the bottom end is strong enough as it is.

Not building the heads wither, just going to do a slight port job and refresh all the seals, replace the lifters and drop in the 2.7 head exhaust valves.

I appreciate everyone who is trying to suggest other plans... but I have it all under control.

Plan is simple.. 2.7L w/ rods + 2.8L heads as far as the long block is concerned

ahh, I thought you were doing pistons as well.. If you aren't I understand but, anyone who is doing pistons is talking about a $600 difference for a crank. Pretty dumb IMHO if you don't go 3.0L

ahh no.. stock pistons... no need to go aftermarket, they've proven themselves for power levels far beyond what the 605's can support

I agree, if you're not going to replace the pistons anyways, and you're trying to keep it relatively budget, skip the 3.0. Also, this is just my personal opinion, but I have no more faith in the sodium filled S4 exhaust valves than I do with the stock 2.8 valves, considering how many sodium filled Audi valve failure I hear about with the B5 S4, 1.8t's, and even the 2.2 I5. I have yet to really hear of a non-sodium filled valve failure from burning, though I can't really say I've seen any cars that I would consider to be pushing the limit power/heat-wise.

If I get a budget allroad and eventually go budget single turbo (like my lofty plans in my head are), I'll probably throw 2.8 heads on it with the stock 2.8 valves and possibly up-rated springs etc.

Well I can't really say for sure about the failure rate of the stock sodium filled exhaust valves, but you rarely hear of failures in stock heads so why would it be any different in the 2.8 heads if my revlimit stays the same at 7200 rpm?

    That's my thinking anyway.
