034 Coilpack harness installed. Great Product.

My coil pack harness was getting old and brittle and started to short out. I look around at different options of what to do. I could have gone the same route we did at the dealership and just put new connectors and a bit of new wiring, or do the entire coil pack harness all the way to the ECU. I looked at a few people that sold "solutions" but they looked sketchy so I ended up going with the 034 Motorsports coilpack harness replacement.

Turned out really clean. Took about an hour or so to install. You have to cut all the factory wires and put leads on them and install them into the new o34 connector. I must say its a very good quality part and worth the money for it. My car idles a bit better, no more random misfire and looks a lot better.

    Here is the kit:

    Here are some pics.

Here you can see where I cut the factory harness back and tucked it away. Attached the new 034 harness.

Pulled it out so you can see it more.

I actually like how it looks but not sure about the protection of it. The wires are a high temp grade from what they say. We will see though.

Overall it turned out pretty clean and very OEM looking. My idle is a lot smoother and the powerband is as well. Just a note for everyone one.. peal back the boots on the coil pack connector and see if your wires are frayed... mine were so I replaced it.

Those look really nice. I have been debating on picking these up since mine are looking pretty ragged with the occassional misfire. I think I'm sold now.

Just ran out to the car to check mine, first one I pulled had a frayed wire. It has only been misfiring under the high end of boost, but I figure getting the wiring sorted out can't hurt. Ordering now, 034 should give you a commission.

The protection of the wires is in their coating; the Techflex is there to keep everything organized and looking nice; it is not meant to provide heat protection, although it can handle high temps (just don't install it or any other wiring next to your exhaust manifold).

This is one of our most popular products and a great way to breath new life into the ignition system without rewiring the whole thing. Thanks OP for the great review; hit up KEN@034 if you guys need to make an order.

im confused what you had to do to install it. what wires did you have to cut and why? its not plug and play? i get random misfires too. plugs are new, injectors are new, coils are new...im thinking at 125K this might be a good idea to replace the harness.

The stock coil pack harness wires are 1 piece all the way to the ECU. The 034 harness just replaces part of those wires, so you have to cut the stock wires and install pins and a plug that comes with the new harness from 034.

The first picture he posted shows the new plug that needs to be installed on the OEM wires after you cut them.

This picture of his shows that plug and the one that is already on the 034 harness after he was done.

where are the wires supposed to be messed up at? i pulled back the rubber boot that sits right over part of the connectors to the coil pack, and saw the wires under it cracked and exposed. even the plastic part of the connector was extremely brittle, it cracked by me just pulling the rubber boot back. my wires are very hard, and even twisting them a little cracks the actual wires inside them or something. i think they just get extremely brittle over time, and since they never really move they harden up and the insulation around the wires turns brittle.

input? if this is where you all are also saying your wires are frayed at, then ive got the same problem. i also have a misfire on 2 i cant get rid of. maybe this is the problem?

I can write up a little DIY for everyone. To be honest, like I said 9/10 peoples harness are probably cracked but didn't think people would jump on it and order right away. It is a good fix and I have 0 on my misfire counts all the way through my RPM band now.

Most the time when in boost and you get misfires it could be the coilpack itself or the plug. If not then this would be the next place to look.

Give me until tomorrow I will take some more pics and do a DIY. It is very easy. Really there are 4 wires you need to pay attention to. Number 1, 2, 3 and 4 trigger wires need to be installed in the harness in the correct place. After that you just have your constant 12v wire for each plug and ground for each plug. The harness has a built in ground for the valve cover so no need to worry about that.

So number one trigger goes into the number one plug on the new connector (supplied with the kit). Then number 2 goes in the number 2 and so on to number 4. After that it is just constant 12v and ground for each plug. number 5-8 are the ground wires and 9-12 are 12v wires. (on the new connector). There are instructions that come with the kit.

    I will post a DIY.

Also there was no protective cover for the USP wires although they are high temp wires im sure but you would have wire hanging everywhere unless you heat shring all of them together.

034's solution is definitely the best option. As for a DIY, here are the install instructions provided by them. If someone needs a wiring diagram I can work on posting it up.

its definitely worth spending the money rather than wires shorting out like crazy and you being stranded. the instructions it came with were legit. if OP still has the paper with the break down of the wires and they're colors that would be legit as well.

Not baggin on the USP kit at all but you will have to splice more wires and use but connectors or solder the wires together, then heat shrik them. Just not as clean in my opinion but still an option. Also there was no protective cover for the USP wires although they are high temp wires im sure but you would have wire hanging everywhere unless you heat shring all of them together.
Another advantage of the 034 setup, if you do end up needing to do it again you can just buy another 034 harness and it is 100% plug and play. A big factor if you plan on keeping the car for a long time.
