Is there a specific type of SD memory card required for our B8's?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I keep getting UNREADABLE every time I try to use my memory card slot. I was wondering if anyone had any input cuz I'm not sure why I keep getting this message. I've only tried MP3's on a 4GB and 16GB card. Are these too large for the slot reader to handle and hence the "UNREADABLE" message? Thanks for the advice cuz this is frustrating the heck out of me..LOL!

What year is your car? If it's a pre 2010 model, you'll have to use a non-SDHC card, which pretty much limits you to 2gb.

Old SD card readers can be upgraded to use SDHC cards. Its just a software upgrade. Mine is upgarded and it works fine.
originally my software version was 0210 and after upgrade it is 0310. Now 16 and 32 Gb cards works fine.

+1. Most cards nowadays are SDHC.

This upgrade is not official, obviously newer software is supposed to use with newer cars. So, your dealer/workshop could say, that there are no upgrades avalable, but there is.

The thought in the UK seems to be that most 2009 cars can be software upgraded from SD to SDHC but that the first early B8's can't.

Where can we get this? I tried to no available to get the upgrade out of my dealer. The stated that unles the SVM flags for your VIN, there's no way to grab it.
SVM: B856A001 does update the radio ver on 09 A4's Symphony, but just cant get here at all!

If its a BIN file, can you link? Well only if its English ver....

Sorry my being a bit off-topic, but... has anybody tried, with the newest MMI firmware (which is the latest?) to play multichannel music (such as DTS/WAVs, FLAC, MLP or WMA Pro files?) or video files (DivX? other formats?) via SDHC? Either via MMI High and/or B&O option.
[I'm asking 'cos I'll receive my new Avant MMI High+B&O in a couple of weeks and would like to start converting my multichannel/hidef audio library to anything compatible]
    Many thanks

So, this leads me to a second question. I have the APR ECU Stage 1 flash. Can I go to the dealer and have them upgrade my software so that I can use SDHC memory cards and if so will that affect my APR flash program? I was told by the shop that I purchased my APR program from that if AUDI upgrades the vehicles software, that may cause the need for the ECU to be physically removed from the car in order to have the program reflashed in and there would be a charge to do that. Is this true? If it is, I'll just deal with only being able to use a 2GB SD card. I don't want to go through that hassle.

Local Audi workshop upgraded mine. First they said, that no updates are available, but finally they found this sw version. Obviously this sw version is not official sw version to my cars player.

My car is manufactured july 2008, and hardware version is H02.

Yes, I have seen this another forum, updating us older Hw versions which have the 4Gb SD limit to a the newer SW 0311 ver to gain SDHC access.

However, no one here can get it stateside. The dealer's here are reluctant to go outside official means, e.g. unless VIN range matches, your SOL. Even when VINs match here, getting a TSB applied is like pulling teeth!!

Anyways, if you can post a link someplace I would be willing to test it out here on a firmware update for older SW 0210 ver A4s (pre Feb '10 manufacture dates).

Sorry, I don't have that file available. As I told, local Audi workshop told me that there are no updates available, obviously based on my cars VIN number, but I told them that there are definitely SW version 0310 available. (I have read lot of stories from german audi site , motor-talk.de ) They re- checked this issue from factory, and they obviously got confirmation that SW0310 can be used with older cars.

I drive an 08 built A4 B8, one of the first production runs, and my Radio was updated, so yes the update can be applied to older vehicles.

No worries. I have given up on acquiring the firmware update here in the US. I have an iPhone now and just plug it into the ami via a 6' cabledock cable. Havent used the SD since...

I sent a two page letter to my dealer service manager and he told me he would help me get the software update. He called me back to say that Audi Canada said that the software would not enable the SDHC cards. I think this is bullsh*t. I cannot believe they sell cars this expensive and cannot give decent service !

Yea me too...if you get it just rip the file and post it up here. I'm sure we could all just throw it on an SD card and try it out.

The only official formats supported are .mp3, .wma (7/8/9), aac (.m4a) for audio.
For video (on dvd player) it's standard DVD-V and DVD-V compatible DVD-A.

I do not know if you addressed this question to me, but I do not think the service manager did get the software. I think he just replied that it would not do what I wanted it to do, just to get off the hook and not need to have to get it!

So... no officially supported multichannel file. But unofficially? I read about B&O owners playing dts encoded wav files...
And does it play the hi-res content in DVD-As?

Yes, I was hoping he got it to you none the less. Most SA's (service advisers) really are clueless, btw. They see tooo many vehicles to know specifics on any 1 line, IMHO. If you can just get him to send you the file, pass to me and I'll install it and test it out. I'm looking for the sw 0211 upgrade to sw ver 0310. I have HW02 (check VAG log for yours).

Cabal san, I have the same version as you, I have basically given up. My only hope is that someday Audi might have to upgrade the version to make it compatible with a new version of Iphone or whatever and this may make it compatible with SDHC cards. The worst is that I bought my car used (it had 3 months and was the local rep car) and I had them write on the contract that they would update the radio software if possible, but they keep telling me that it is not possible !

See, but thats BS cuz i have an 8gb IPhone and a 16gb SD card. its much easier to load music on the SD and i hate putting my phone away in a glove box...how can i use the maps for driving?! Audi should be global on the same level. Not allow some here but none there...
