Ross-tech's vag-com on iPhone !

Hi every one!

I personally would love to get my hands on a vag-com app for my iPhone 4, with cables of course

I talked to the guys at Ross-tec and they don't support the iPhone at present. But they do have a project to support a sub-set of the functionality in VCDS on the iPhone (as well as other mobile platforms such as Android), but it is very much still in the prototype stage.

They will have to come up with a new cable, so I think its not gonna happen for a loooong time

Is that right? I hope the cable isnt going to be an issue.

There is a lot of ODBII to Blutooth adaperts out there.

There is ofcourse the USB to iPhone/Pad/Pod also (male/female), that may be used with the odbII-usb?

Would love this. On the topic, does anyone know if their software will work on my mac? Went to the website and it didn't mention it.

I'd like to have this on my Android, but not enough to buy an expensive new cable, since I can just use my laptop anyway. The phone interface would only be useful for on-the-fly applications, like if your CEL comes on in the middle of a long drive... wait, actually that sounds like a great idea. I'm gonna go put in my vote.

The pics posted by op are indeed real and from rosstech, but it has been VERY clear from them that they are not interested in developing for the iPhone/iPad specifically. What they are working on I think is a browser base interface that works on many mobile platforms so that they reach a much larger market share. I think this is smart, but having an iPad and iPhone now for a long time i hope to see it soon! With all the wifi versions of the obd devices shown above I really don't believe that the limitation is in the available technology. Lots of ppl say just go get a net book, they are cheap......thats not the point.....I have an iPad and want to sit in my car and connect to a wireless obd and use VCDS! Whether its via an app or browser i dont care. And I know I'm not the only one! I completely understand from a business stand point what rosstech has been weary of but it is 2011 and people want wireless and mobile! It is not a fad it is the present and future so get on it and it will sell and they can make money on this! I would pay for sure! Who else would????

I guess what i don't understand is that if they've already done it based on the pics and input from Uwe and Andy, then why not just toss it out there as a beta. See how it goes over- they could say take it or leave it, make it an experiment.
They Don't have to offer support and updates or anything, but it could create a potentially large market. ...if it exists already and there's no liability to putting it out then there must be some other motivation to hold off.

I just ordered one of Ross-Tech's USB cables today and asked about this. I was told by a sales guy that they are about to begin extensive testing of prototypes for the rest of the year and to possibly expect a wireless version for sale in Q1 of 2012. I was also told that there would most likely be a trade in program for existing users.

That would just be genious. Im thinking about buying the kiwi wifi odb but ill wait and see what RossT come up with!

Have a Xoom on the way, and would love to have VCDS!! Would be so much easier than disconnecting my laptop from my entertainment system and dragging that big 'ole thing outside when the tablet will always be with me anyway...

IF this is going to happen, I think it will definitely be a new cable or other hardware (bluetooth dongle?) as this is how Ross Tech makes their money. The VCDS software is free when you buy the cable so, unless they are moving to a new business model and charging for the software, I don't see their incentive to develop a software solution for handhelds.

A bluetooth dongle would be the shiz for wireless logging and coding.

Soo thinking of getting the cable as I just flashed stage 1+ and not seeing/feeling any serious gains. Any updates on the iPhone hookup? Meanwhile is this the right one http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/hex-usb+can.html?? It'd be nice if there was something Macbook compatible too...

Did you go from stage 1 to 1+ or stage 0 to stage 1?

Stock to Stage 1+. Installed the TT injectors the day before I flashed it. Turbo spool is audible enough but nowhere near the night/day power & tq increases everyone mentions.
