Has there been an instance where the dual stage airbag on a B6 has actualy deployed?

Just doing some research... I've come across 3 occurrences where the airbag didn't pop. Has anyone had the wired in B7 bag go off when needed?

airbags air very simple as far as firing the bag. single stage or double stage doesnt matter. the air bag is set off by simply completing a circut. if you were to pull off the airbag harness at the bag and connect the two contacts together, the bag would deploy. double stage still sends the signal on the first stage, so the bag will deploy.

Everyone is aware of that. The Airbag controller is the one that determines the pulse length and presumably voltage, which means if it starts to fire and the resistance is different it might cut the pulse. There was an A3 that had them wired just into one of the stages and the driver bag didn't pop.

Bump....I really hate my B6 steering wheel and would like to know the proper way to wire up my B7 wheel for peace of mind. Perhaps the instances where the airbag didn't deploy was that the crash wasn't hard enough to trigger the airbag controller.

This is a topic that should have a definitive answer considering how many are running B7 or newer wheels + bags.

Kept me from going with something newer, but uber stoked I was able to secure an USP wheel instead.

Justa question for yall that have done wheel mods or changes, have you vagged and checked for codes? I have had random airbag codes show on vag that didnt trigger a cel or airbag light. If theres a code as far as I know the system won't deploy either, or maybe im wrong.

theres only one way to get a definitive answer, but i dont think anyone has the cash to drop... ideal would be to find a rearended b6 and a rear ended b7, swap the wheels and smack the sensor. if it were only that simple!

figured Id bump this up...I too have read of several instances in B6's and other single-stage audi's that had dual stage bags/steering wheels swapped where the passenger side airbag deployed but the driver side did NOT.

Yet the guy with that cabrio said his worked?? Odd..
