New mods!! (Rear Camera, DVD player and Painted Calipers)

Whats's up guy's!

It has been a long time ago since my last post on this forum. Meanwhile I moved back to the Netherlands and took my US Avant with me.
Here are a couple of my latest mods!

Painted my calipers because they where geting ugly. Good timing to clean, clay and wax the wheels.

Pica's...











This was done with the Motip tuning line brake caliper paint (brush) and some engine paint for the rotors. Already had the retainer springs.

The DVD Player...





The DVD player has an USB connection and an extra video+sound input (for a Xbox etc.) fully controlled by the steeringwheel and RNS-E.

The Camera...







Camera image pops up as soon as you put it in reverse doesn't matter if you are watching a movie, listening to the radio or navigating. If you put the car in P,N,D or S the image will remain for 5 sec before switching back. The lines are projected and will NOT move when you are steering.

I like them. which back up camera is that? Does that replace the light or is it placed on top of the light? also, if the light is still functional, i wonder how long till you get pulled over for a "license plate light out"...

The only thing i'm not digging is the S4 brake clip thing.... Thats like putting an S4 badge on the rear of your car....

More or less I agree, I like the clip, but maybe you can cover it with a 4 ring decal or something similar? Would look nice and noboday would tell you that you are pretending...

That's a store from a guy I know. He ordered the camera for me and the 2 of us installed the camera.
The camera has a LED licenceplate light with the same color. You need a recistance to get rid of the light out warning. The camera + LED fits right in place of the oem light. You need an audi video controller with rear camera function for the image and switching between video when putting it in reverse. You need to connect one wire to the RNS-E but I don't know exactly because my friend did this one. You also need to VAG the RNS-E (Lamborgihini has a camera).

The light is still functional!!

I replaced the retainer spring a year ago because it became very very rusty. I thought of painting and puting some decals on the S4 spring but I never took the time to do it. I like the S4 logo anyway, it's only on the brakes not on the car... with brakes I don't mind.

It is about 80,- euro's for the camera.
I already had the DVD player with IMA Multimedia Interface with camera function and full OEM controlling

What you need is: RNS-E, Camera and IMA Multimedia Interface.

Nice mods! I wouldn't be too worried about the S4 logo on the calipers (they look nice), last time I checked B7s come with S4 calipers anyway.

Yep the calipers are the same as a S4 caliper. I like them too....

Looked it up in ETKA and I think it's 8E0 615 269

Actually I'm pretty sure.... I just googled the number and it's the S4 retainer spring.

BTW Also did the VIM (video in motion) hack by changing the RNS-E software. The Video channel is now turned off at 150 mp/h. Great for music DVD's, kids or just showing off....

I already had this kit, you need the controller for the camera.

The cheap camera died 2 months after I opened this topic. I got my money back and bought a Q7 camera, much better picture quality, espacially at night. You don't need any resistors with the q7 camera, with the cheap camera with LED you need one.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

probably could but why would you? pretty sure it doesn't give you a video out.

just get a nice pioneer or kenwood camera and use Q7 rear camera liftgate handle. That way it will plug right into your aftermarket deck.

a little dremeling needed but other than that pretty easy DIY.

no worries, and yes looks right to me, sorry should have been a Z on the end not a 2.

i did not use the retaining clip or screw tap. just a little ingenuity and patience to get in there just right. basically wedged rubber shims to get the fit just right, then a little silicon to make sure it stayed put.

video quality is great both day and night, only problem is our reverse lights which I dont think gives a great deal of light off. Ill take some shots and send them to you. been meaning to anyways.

I need to find a replacement for my cheap ebay camera. I tore it out because of the inconsistent (some days it worked perfect other days the picture was blurry) picture and bulb out error.

hey sorry forgot to post these. couple quick ones taken with my iphone in my garage. video quality is good. our backup lights limit the camera in complete darkness though.

Did a new small mod last week! Installed the LED kit from Emilgevor (Audizine member). Nice guy and real good service!

I have the color display in my car so the plate lights give a 'bulb out warning'. No problem, I installed some resistors the simple way and the problem is solved.

Here is a quick DIY
I first tried 1 resistor but it was just to weak. I had an intermitted light out warning so I installed a second one.
Put some tiny amount of solder on the end of the resistor wire. That way you can push them into the plug, make sure you stick them all the way in until you can't see any unshielded wire. Put some electrical tape around it so it stays in place. This way you don't have to cut and solder the existing wires and leave everything OEM. Make sure the resistors make good contact with the metal, they are getting real hot and this way they can dissipate the heat.









Some pictures of my Audi Q7 camera @ night and the interior LED kit.

Hard to capture it on camera, but the image is real bright and you can see eveyting. This image is shot at midnight. The taillights give enough light to get a clear pictures. Have yet to see an other car with better image quality @ night.

I have not upgraded to S4 brakes. The old retainer clip was full of rust, the S4 clip is the same size so I put that one on the caliper because it's bigger.

I don't know the type of resistor anymore... Bought them last year with the cheap backup camera. I bought 1 who uses the same amount of watts as one LP light, that's why I need 2 of them.

Yes it's a Kufatec setup. The audi controller switches video between the camera and DVD player when in reverse. Because of recoding the RNS-E the unit switches to the video channel when you put it in reverse no matter what you are doing (navigating, listening to radio or watching a DVD).

Everything has OEM control, so the DVD player can be controlled by steering wheel, RNS-E or DVD player.

This way everything works OEM. The Lamborghine has the RNS-E with camera, that's why we can make it work OEM.

The logo's are painted, I think :). They are OEM you can order them @ the dealer. I bought them because these won't rust because the are painted and look way better. The original ones rusted and made my calipers brown of rust.

So the part number 8E0 615 269, presented earlier is for these clips? They really do look hot! I think I'm going to order them for my car also..
