Streaming audio with the Audi streaming audio adaptor & iPhone?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know Audi has that streaming audio adaptor, so can it be used to stream something like Pandora Radio to the AMI?

Just guessing but, I bet Apple has done some thing to not allow this but I am curious.

You need to get the 3 and a half style AMI headphone jack. That's the only way to stream Pandora to AMI. The traditional Ipod connection does not work.

Can't believe they haven't done an update to make those work with the 3G MMI's yet, I really want to stop plugging in and just have it work when I hop in the car.

If you have iOS4 you can listen to pandora or any streaming radio through the ipod adapter. I do it all the time and didnt renew my serius because of it. You can buy a dock extender cable as well so you can hold the phone and change stations. I just need to figure where i can run the cable so i dont have to leave my glove box open when im listening.

How are you doing this? I'd love to do this vs the AUX method I do today with slacker, but... when I plug the iPod into the iPod adapter (4g iPod touch with iOS4.1) it just says that I have no music files. I have 0 music on my iPod as I only use it to stream radio but ** I would surely love to use the iPod plug instead of the Aux plug that I use today...

Are you able to even get a steady connection to Pandora through AT&T's 3G? 3G is terrible in San Francisco, there's no way I would be able to listen to Pandora without it cutting out to buffer every 10 sec.

If you have spotty network coverage in some areas like we do, I use Slacker as it allows you to cache up to 25 stations on your device and you don't need network access to play them back. I've had great luck with it so far.

I just wish I could access it through the MMI. I attempted this last night but it would not output any audio when i had switched to the iPod interface... I may have more issues now though because today it just displays "LOADING" when I plug the iPod in and never changes from that status until I unplug it. Went back to the Aux in the meantime. :)

If you've got built-in Bluetooth plus this Bluetooth A2DP adapter for music, what happens when a phone call comes in? Can you still take it the call and have the caller ID work too?

    Glitch with Pandora

Hi, I just got a 2008 A4 with I believe the Symphony radio system installed (6 CD changer with no nav and the iPod connector in the glove box). I use my 3G iPhone with OS 4 for my music, and I did the same thing--bought the iPod dock extender so I wouldn't have to have my iPhone tied up in the glove box to listen to its music. In particular though, I wanted to be able to stream Pandora radio. For me the extender works fine to play the iPod app through the car’s stereo. However, when I try to use Pandora, it plays for maybe 5 seconds through the stereo, and then it goes back to only playing the iPod. I tried to force quit the iPod app on the iPhone but I am unable to (i.e. I go through all the steps but it restarts itself after a few seconds). It seems that there is something in the Audi connector that tells the iPhone to kick back to the iPod app.

Has anyone else had this problem and gtoshifter, it seems like you are good to go with your Pandora set up. Did you have this issue or do you have a different radio setup? Thanks all (this is my first Audi and I am liking the great amount of forum information I have come across, though I can’t seem to crack this nut)

I believe Pandora can only work if you plug in you iphone thru the phone's headphone jack and NOT the iPod dock port. When you plug into the headphone jack thru the optional mp3 cable, whatever music/sounds comes thru the headphone will be broadcasted into your car's speaker. But with this setup, you cannot control any ipod functions thru the MMI. You can only control it directly on your iPhone.

If you connect your iPhone thru the ipod dock cable however, only the ipod fuction works on your phone and you can control the ipod function on your MMI.

Hi, thanks very much for the response. I have been able to play Pandora through a docked iPhone at home (I have a logitech speaker system), but I think you are right that there is something that doesn't allow that in the car's config. Do you have any sense if that audi bluetooth package would enable it? Thanks again

I tried to open "Stitcher" from my phone and for a few seconds, it would play through my car audio then back to the music on my iPhone (3GS). I'm not sure what you are doing to get yours to play GTOSHIFTER, but would love to see you post an iPhone video. I'm sure we would ALL be appreciative if you would entertain us with a "how-to!"

Audi 3G MMI does not support A2DP bluetooth streaming. The bluetooth streaming adaptor made by Audi that was mentioned in above posts only works with Audi 2G MMI System.

But streaming thru your iPhone and Android Phone can work if you have 1) the optional 3.5mm MP3 Cable fited into your AMI port in the glove caompartment,

    2) then purchase a bluetooth receiver like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Miccus-BluBrid...4631541&sr=8-1

    3) The bluetooth receiver will plug into the 3.5mm MP3 cable in the glove compartment and you will be able to stream Pandora on your iPhone/Android Phone using A2DP bluetooth protocol.

No...they are two different types of cables that connect to your AMI port in your glove compartment. More than likely you received your ipod dock cable with your car, the 3.5mm mp3 cable is an option that you have to order separately. You can order online.

I have since traded in my iphone and went with a verizon andriod phone due to coverage issues. However, the way I USE to get my iphone to play pandora through the Ipod MMI cable was by...

    1. Plug in the phone, it will automatically begin playing music from the iphone.
    2. Pause the music on the phone.
    3. Open pandora and hit play.

You are essentually tricking the MMI into thinking its playing the ipod but really it is playing pandora in the background. I used this setup for a couple months with no issues on the 3G MMI. Of course this only works if you have iOS 4.0 or later which supports multitasking. I have not had an iphone for a couple of months so i dont know if one of the more recent versions of iOS has done away with the work around.

I now use the 3.5mm cable which audi tries charging $62 dollars for. However i called customer service and they mailed me one free of charge.

Pause the music on the phone
When I plug my iphone into the symphony I lose control of the iphone. I tried to find a pause button on the symphony but can't find it. If I could find a way to pause the song on ipod through symphony, I could keep it on oause and then fire up pandora.
Does anyone know where the pause button is for the CD selection?

    Stream Music on 3G MMI

You need at least one song on your Ipod/Iphone. Put the MMI in Media mode then plug in your phone. It should automatically start playing the songs you have on your phone. Then start your streaming app and hit play. It should then start streaming through the MMI. However, you can't control it (e.g. skip songs) using the MMI controls. MMI doesn't know when you switch from iphone music to streaming app but must be started using iphone music.

Hey guys, I'm in a 2010 S5 Cab with 3G or whatever MMI, - I'd like to stream Pandora from my iPhone 4 - I can currently play songs on the phone, but can't stream (that i'm aware of). After reading this thread, seems like this is a simple way to get streaming music..... however, is there a better deal out there than buying a $55 cable ? I have a vag-com cable, but I've never heard that cable could modify the aux device connection.....

I have got an Audi A2DP Receiver from ViseeO

Hi, I've got an Audi A2DP receiver from ViseeO which will work with online music services such as Pandora and Sportify. The unit is designed for the native iPod app on my iphone which will not only stream music but also transfer the whole music library and song titles to your Audi screen, and I can control the music from the steering wheel button or head unit control directly. Then I have tried it on Sportify, the unit still stream music to my Audi but the only downside is the music list which can not be imported like the native iPod app. However, it does work which I think is quite good.

can anyone comment on this? I have the a2dp or whatever the other bluetooth interface is and not happy with the quality of the bluetooth audio - even in the less than optimal sound environment of the cab.....currently have removed the bluetooth puck and have a direct cable plugged into an iphone but obviously the info is not on the MMI screen like the direct plug to your iphone... but that doesn't allow streaming music that i'm aware of... anyone have experience with this?

I use the tune2 air ,odule, works well, its just like if you had the iphone/pod plugged into the mmi adapter. Can do full control from the MMI. Streams pandora/spotify fine. If you get a call, it pauses the music so you can answer the call. It works with android also.

I have tune2air. Works great. I'm not an audiophile, but I cared enough to buy B&O for my car and I'm happy with the quality. Also, I think you can find it for slightly cheaper on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/ViseeO-WMA1000.../dp/B00B52LLJ6).
