    Audi S4/RS4/S5 V8 Dyno Comparisons

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Figured I'd toss these together this weekend, especially since we had a very nicely performing RS4 in a few weeks back.

All of the V8s were stock, with the exception of the ABZ in our B3 "V80", which has an intake, exhaust, ported head, 3.6L exhaust manifolds, and is tuned on our Stage IIc standalone ECU.

    First off, the comparison:

    - The B6 S4 dyno is actually from JHM's car back when it was stock. It also put down the most power out of all of the 6-MT 5V V8 S4s we've seen, but they are all within ~10WHP.

    - The B7 RS4 dyno is from the strongest RS4 we've had on our dyno to date. The numbers on these cars vary greatly due to issues that I'm sure you all are very familiar with. This is the only B7 RS4 that has made over 300WHP on our dyno.

    - The B8 S5 dyno is one of the 2 B8 S5s we've had on the dyno. They both were remarkably consistent, making almost exactly the same power on multiple runs. Then again, they were basically brand new.

On another note, I'm sure those of you who are running/following Jason/JHM's products would be pleasantly surprised to know where they would be on this chart as of a few days ago when they visited our dyno.

Next, the lowest B7 RS4 dyno compared to the highest B7 RS4 dyno.

Neither of these cars had any codes stored in the ECU. Most B7 RS4s dyno right about inbetween these two, making 270-285WHP.

Finally, our very own "V80" compared to a stock 5V V8.

I know that the majority of you want to see NA Audi V8 numbers, so I will graciously end this post without any B8 S4 dynos, B5 S4 dynos, 900+WHP Time Attack A4 dynos, Yamaha R1 dynos, Evolution X dynos, or Dacia Sandero dynos.

We should also have another S5 coming in for an AWE exhaust install later this week, and if the customer allows, we will do some before and after dynos.

    Very interesting. Thx for sharing!

I know this is on a different dyno in different conditions, but Eurocode dyno'd a B8 A4 2.0T w/ the APR Stage I tune on 91 octane at ~295 lb-ft peak at around 2.75k RPMs. The new engines have some nice torque goin on. Peak HP was at around 210 @ 5k RPMs. Obviously dynos are better suited for illustrating gains, not comparing to other dyno runs. I just found it interesting.

This is a very common feature on 4-cylinder turbo cars with smaller factory turbos. You get a great low end torque spike, but torque will fall drastically in higher RPMs as the turbo runs out of steam.

Here is a B8 A4 with GIAC/Stasis tuning (not the best, APR and Unitronic both make more torque sooner) on our dyno:

Ya my A4 definitely loses steam in the upper bands; it's pretty noticeable. Your graph is further proof that the RS4 is an absolute beast up there.

That would be my S5. I've spoken to Christian about this already and gave him the ok to proceed with the dyno's when I bring the car in next week. BTW, the KW V3's are great, thanks for the install!

    Hi Brian,

Glad you're enjoying the V3's! The car should sound awesome with the AWE exhaust.

    Thanks!

My S5 with AWE exhaust and 20inch wheels dyno'd at 270hp on a dynojet(?), so its interesting to see a stock S5 dyno much higher. I wonder why. Interested in seeing the results for the S5 with AWE.

That's really unusual, considering that Dynojets read substantially higher than our dyno.

Is your car a Tiptronic, by any chance?

    Nope manual. There was a B8, B6, and B5 S4 that ran 307, 265, and 260 respectively.

Wow, look at the difference in the RS4 plots!!

I'd be interested in seeing the b8 s4 graph on top of the s5 graph.

Should have a B8 S4 here next week for some product development, and another B8 S5 for an AWE exhaust install.

Laszlo i'd be interested to see any A5 3.2 dyno graphs if you've got them.

Unfortunately we haven't had a single 3.2L FSI customer who was interested in going on the dyno.

Great post....after unloading my b6 S4 and eyeballing a 2009 S5 recently, I was curious about this. I've driven both quite a bit. The S5 does feel quite a bit heavier then the B6/B7 S4 imo. Next step is to check curb weight I suppose.

    Audi S4/RS4/S5 V8 Dyno Comparisons

    Interesting.

I DD my S5 all year good and bad weather. Taken home a 60" TV from Best Buy recently with the seats down. It's just a all around damn good car. Great combo between AWD, looks, 4.2 V8 sounds. It has plenty of hp & torque, it's just a good damn daily driver. It doesn't feel "slow", I have enough power when needed. But sure it's not super fast.

I've thought about getting a B8.5 S4 with the 3.0T but I'm not really sure how I'd like the V6 no matter how fast it is. I was thinking of getting a RWD torque monster 4 door highway cruiser/grocery getter as a 2nd car to the S5. Something like a w211E55 AMG, or w204 c63. The e55 has something crazy like 480lbs torque stock, with 4 doors ;)

Looked at e90 m3's but they are still crazy expensive for a decent mileage one. And they have lower torque, even compared to my S5. Those need room to run into the high RPM's.

Old thread but curious if anyone knows where to get a good RPM signal from so the dyno (Dynojet in this case) can map rpm and torque. This would be on an RS5 but I'd imagine it would be very similar to an RS4 or S5 V8.
