2000 s4 cant get remote to pair with car.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi
So My car came with copied keys, I ordered 2 keys from audi, that came from Germany for my car and the key works but not the remote. The only dealer I have in town is a VW dealer (where I got the keys) they tried to program keys but said that my car was to modified to accept programing.
I figured the dealer was BS-ing me because of engine mods my car has and a chip... BUT the car as far as I know is stock in regards to interior electrical components.

I searched all over and got a hold of the steps to pair these to the car, but for the life of me I cant get it to work. Using Vag-com I am able to connect to [46 - Cent. Conv.] and in [Meas. Blocks - 08] group "003" I see that there are not remotes paired to the car. BUT something inresting when I press a button on my remotes vag-com shows a button triggering in the far right box.
Here is the vag-com link I was using. NOTHING on the page worked except getting into meas block group 3 to look at the values.

    http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/car...-matching.html

The cars computer seems to be receiving the signal from my remotes, so they seem to work, and the car is successfully receiving the signal. My power locks work in the car with the switch on the door.
SO what should i start checking?

    Thanks for any help!!!

AND here is list of programming instructions I compiled while searching but nothing worked.
    Code:
       1. Take the key you DO NOT want to program and put it in the ignition. Turn it one click forward.
       2. Close and lock the drivers door with the second key.
       3. On the second key (the one in the drivers door) press the 'UNLOCK' button ONCE only. The lights will flash on the car, but the doors will remain locked
       4. With the second key still in the drivers door, unlock then lock the door again.
       5. Pull the key from the slot and test remote functions.
       6. Open drivers door, remove key from ignition.

If both of your remotes don't work, do the above for the first key, but on step #3, press the 'UNLOCK' button twice. The lights will flash twice, then continue on with step #4.

    --------------------------------------

    1. Insert one working key into the ignition and turn on without starting on the car.
    2. Using another key manualy lock the car from the outside.
    3. Press either the LOCK or the UNLOCK button on the remote (to be programed) once, then wait 2 seconds.
    4. Press either button again.
    5. Switch off ignition and remove key. You should hear a beep to confirm programing.
    6. Done

I didn't hear the beep but it worked just fine

    Clearing of Memory positions.

    - Switch ignition on using one key.
    - Lock vehicle from outside at driver's door using separate key.
    - Press "unlock" button on the remote transmitter key 5 times in one second intervals.
The emergency flashers and or the anti theft system horn comfirms every press of the button.
    - After 6 seconds, press the remote transmitter "unlock" button to confirm the memory positions are now cleared. The central locking system should not unlock.
    - Switch the ignition off.
    - Up to 4 keys can now be coded again.
    ------------

Coding procedure. 2 keys are required for this also. Be sure that keys being coded are coded to free memory spots, if not the remotes previously programmed will no longer work.

    - switch the ignition on using one key
    - lock the vehicle from outside the drivers door using the key to be coded
    - press "unlock" button within 5 seconds often enough to reach the next memory position (ie push 2 times for memory slot 2)

The emergency flashers and or the anti theft horn willl confirm every press of the button

    - wait 5 seconds.
    - now press "unlock" button one more time (vehicle unlocks)
    - switch the ignition off and remove the ignition key
    - check function of the new transmitter

Procedure for re-coding an existing transmitter

    - press "lock" or "unlock" button of the remote transmitter
    - within 30 seconds, lock and unlock the vehicle using the driver side lock. (this means with the key in the lock)
    - now check function of the re-coded remote transmission.

    ----------
STEP ONE- INSERT KEY INTO IGNITION TURN TO ON POSITION(DO NOT CRANK CAR). STEP TWO- ROLL DOWN DR WINDOW .STEP THREE- CLOSE DR FRONT DOOR ,INSERT NEWLY CUT KEY INTO DR DOOR LOCK AND TURN CLOCKWISE AND HOLD. STEP FOUR -PRESS LOCK AND UNLOCK BUTTON ON REMOTE A FEW TIMES AND YOU SHOULD HEAR LOCKS MOVE. REMOVE BOTH KEYS AND TRY REMOTE OUT... NOW I DONT THINK THAT WILL PROGRAM KEY TO THE IMMOBILIZER JUST REMOTES TO THE CAR.----------------

    Programming new remote controls

Two keys and all the remote controls that are to be programmed
will be needed. The maximum number of remote controls that can be
programmed, including old and new, is four.

    - Insert first key into ignition switch, and turn it to
    "ignition on."

    - Insert second key into outer door handle, and turn it to
    unlocked position for 10 seconds.

System alarm will emit three beeps.

    - Take first remote control to be programmed and press button
-1-, two beeps will be emitted. For second remote control, press
button -1-, two beeps will be emitted. Use same procedure to program
third or fourth remote control. All remote controls must be programmed
within one minute, otherwise new programming will cancel and old
remote control programming will be valid.

    - Turn key in outer door handle to unlocked position for 10
seconds, one beep will be emitted.

    - Switch ignition off.

Re: 2000 s4 cant get remote to pair with car.

I purchased a new keyfob after having my wife wash the old one. I couldn't get it to program just like you describe. I could see in vag com the signal showing up in the far right box just like you describe. I also went to the VW dealership to try and get some help but they wanted to charge me 2 hours worth of labor to program the remote.

in the end I was able to find a locksmith in my area who cut me a valey key and then used the two key method to program. he only charged my 5 bucks and I now have working keyfob.

good luck and I hope you get it sorted out.

Re: 2000 s4 cant get remote to pair with car.

Use the steps outlined here to clear out all your addresses:

To clear out all memory positions:

    1. Switch on ignition
    2. Lock car mechanically using 2nd key (i used the boot lock), you can use either boot or door lock
    3. Press unlock button 5 times at 1 second intervals. A horn or light flash will occur each press
    4. After 6 seconds, press remote transmitter "unlock" button to confirm clearing procedure one more time.

Confirm this using the measuring blocks should be 0000

    To program a remote:

    1) Switch ignition to on position
    2) Lock vehicle mechanically on door or trunk using 2nd key
    3) Press unlock position for memory position you want (1 time for first, 2 times for second) one second apart. You will see the emergency flashers go for each press
    4) Wait 5 seconds
    5) Press unlock (the vehicle will unlock)
    6) Shut off ignition
    7) Repeat procedure changing step 3 for however many keys you have

You can look at the measuring blocks to make sure you have taken up the right number of memory slots 0010 is one key on position 2, 0011 is two keys, position 1 and 2 etc.

I just left the measuring blocks up so that i could confirm i was getting the keys into the right positions during the procedure.

Here is a complete guide to the central locking system:

Do you have VAG-COM? If so, have you been able to read the measuring blocks? If not, you should probably get a hold of one to verify some of the other steps. You can get a cable for ~30 on ebay and the software for 99 from ross tech. Well worth it IMO as you mayneed it for other things and you can do cool little recodes on other things as well.

I'll try the trunk today, but using the door the lights wouldn't flash, no horn honking, nothing.

Sorry to bump the hell out of my old thread, but I fixed my key problem. I replaced the pump / BCM in the trunk with a used unit, and afterwards I was able to program my keys using the above method.
