    Is that noise in video 3 normal with a diesel?

    Lol. no it's not normal. But this was a very preliminary vid. It was the firt time th ecar was ever started/driven. There was NO exhaust. Just a 3 inch dump, about 12 inches from the turbo!

    Still quattro. 100% functional.

    Bigger injector nozzles, chipped. spikes and holts 20psi on a GT15 (garret version of the k03). Hits 20psi by about 2100rpm. and holds all the way to redline. Very torquey!!
    Redline at 5,000rpm. :)
    ECS RA4 S4 clutch , pressure plate and flywheel.

    The best part? 800km to a tank. 50/50 city/hwy, driving the crap out of it. :D

    ^I think it's a 1.9tdi?

    A few comments on the 3rd video clip.
    It sounds like an airplane with no exhaust
    And way to go on rolling into the exquipment in front of the garage haha.

    I wish I got that kind of mileage with my a4. Audi is slowly going to take over the diesel world.

    There's been a couple on TDI club and I imported a 1.9 A4 tdi quattro from Austria to transplant into a B5 avant.

    The most difficult/expensive part of these swaps is the European TDI transmission. You can use the 2.8 transmission but gearing is still a bit too high for diesel use.

    Re: Introducing myself to the b5 world. Diesel style.

    cdn20valve. Congrats on completing the install. I see you used the same ECS flywheel as myself. What trannsmission did you end up going with?

    I have really enjoyed mine. I feel I need to give a few stats, because most people see TDI's as slow mo, but they dont have to be. The beauty of them is you can get big torque numbers and decent HP numbers (and still get remarkable fuel mileage) which equated to a very fast street machine.

    Here is a comparison of some numbers on my car, before and after:

    V6 = 28mpg
    2.0TDI = 50+MPG = BIG WIN
    V6 = 190BHP/258TQ
    2.0TDI (Custom Turbo/Injectors/Tune) = 230BHP/363TQ = BIG WIN
    200KPH @approx 4300RPM, 1/2 throttle, Redline = 5300RPM
    ..have not run a 1/4mile or tested top end yet, and probably will not, but it really is a lot faster than the V6 option it came with.

    My next build over the coming year will be set-up for racing and will get some hard numbers.

    I ran RWD for the summer (mainly so I could get it on a local dyno to get some numbers and tuning)..it was a lot of fun..boardering on crazy! With the big torque, if driving at 30-40mph and dropping the pedal (no cheating by turning wheel to roll body, lol), a rear tire would immediatley go into smoke show! It was not very practical for hard acceleration without an LSD..and unhooking ABS will save your rear brakes. lol

    Scott,

    Thanks for posting my link.

    Scott is working with me on my next build..it will be a very interesting one...but no further comment on it at this point.

    Re: Introducing myself to the b5 world. Diesel style.

    AudiA4R4, thanks man. Man you have a nice swap on your hands! I CAN ONLY IMAGINE! The torque that my little 1.9 tdi makes is impressive, but yours must be off the charts!

    My build was a budget build. I was very careful not to overspend. All in all I have $5,000.00 cdn into the entire build, including the price of the car itself. Plus I had to get it certified. needed a bunch of little things. all new brakes, tailights (one was cracked) etc... The expensive clutch set-up is also included in that. I had to fabricate and weld custom mounts for the engine. It was alot of work, but in the end, it was worth it.

    Well done. You should be making what 250ft/lbs torque? Did you use an ALH or 1Z?

    Has to be an AHU or 1Z, they are practicly the same, some small differences.

    Second that....

    Even still, with a few mods a 1.9 tdi can put out more torque than a 2.8 30v, even at lower rpms. I havent looked at dynos side by side, but Ive driven enough of both to know the potential.

    The 1.8 trans is going the wrong way... High = numerically higher. For a diesel use you need a trans with numerically lower gears. The European TDi transmissions have the numerically lowest gearset of them all.

    I'm not saying it won't work, the 1.9 will bolt up to any B5 transmission however to get full economy/performance out of the diesel you need a transmission geared as such.

    Man, that is awesome. I have been dreaming of a TDI swap like this ever since I picked up my B5. Proabably would never happen though.

    I love the facelift tails, ditch the MKIII Jetta badge and get yourself a proper Audi 1.9TDI badge.

    1.8t has lower gearing than the 2.8 box.

    some have said that Audi originaly sourced the trans for the 1.8t from the existing TDI box (in '95), which is why the 1.8 is geared so low. dunno how valid that is.

    but the 1.8 is deinitely geared lower, not higher, than the 2.8.

    Ask and you shall receive. These pics are very early on. I had just got the motor in and I was doing wiring and plumbing. But it gives you a general idea.
