Battery Meter and Lap Timer/Oil Temp

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
In my oppinion the batter meter should be standard and not a feature you need to enable. Same with oil temp. Lap timer is cool but not practical for the masses. My 2 cents. Anyway, here are some pictures of these features in aciton. Sorry for the grain. Took em with the cell phone.

Can't wait to use the laptimer on the Nordschleife. I wish it was like Porsche's, though; integrated with the Navi. Keeps a record of times based on location. Perfect for track junkies like me.

This isn't too bad, anyway. Let's me keep my hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

Where can I find the coding for these items? I thought they were in the hidden menu, but I didn't see them there after I enabled it. I didn't see the coding in the VAG-COM thread either.

The battery level can be enabled in the "hidden menu". If it is MMI 2G then it is under "DIAG SETTINGS->Car MenĂ¼s Maske" - but the Laptimer need to be enabled with VCDS, and the code for this, can be found here: http://www.audizine.com/wiki/index.php?title=B8_A4

    Enabling Lap Timer:

Re: Batter Meter and Lap Timer/Oil Temp

EDIT: The hidden menu needs to be unlocked first with VAG-COM/VCDS or VAS 505x. http://www.trick77.com/2009/07/23/un...g-hidden-menu/

    Instructions:

Select control module 5F in VAG-COM/VCDS
    Select “Adaptation – 10″
    Select channel 6
    Set the value to 1
    Press test
    Press save
Press “Done, Go Back”, close the controller and quit the software
There’s no need to restart the MMI, just press CAR + SETUP for 6 seconds to enter the hidden menu

Here is how to do the Battery Meter for 3G MMI. Thanks to Trick77 http://www.trick77.com/2009/07/23/en...us-bar-mmi-3g/

They also have a way to disable the Vehicle In Motion (VIM) so you can play DVDs when driving. I have a hard enough time paying attention to the road so I opted not to do that.

    Instructions:

    1. Press CAR + SETUP for 6 seconds to enter the hidden developer menu
    2. Select “car”
    3. Select “cardevextdevicelist”
    4. Check the “Battery” checkbox
    5. Press return key
    6. Select “carmenuoperation”
    7. Set the battery value to 5
    8. Press return key
    9. Press CAR key (exit hidden menu)
    10. Restart the MMI: Press and hold down the function keys 1 (Setup), the control button 2 and the control key at the top right 3 simultaneously until the MMI

    11. You’ll find a new “Battery” entry in your CAR menu

My bad. Forgot to mention that. The hidden menu needs to be unlocked first with VAG-COM/VCDS or VAS 505x. I edited the post.

    what about for MMI 2G?

is it the same instruction set as above, after unlocking in VAG-COM? Or is this just a 2010+ thing?

also, does anyone know if there is a B7 Battery meter? I'd love to do that as I think my battery is sick.

Re: Batter Meter and Lap Timer/Oil Temp

I previously enabled my hidden menu and I can successfully call it up, but I get nothing when I try to select the car option. The option is there, but doesn't seem to be active. I thought that might be where the battery level option was, but couldn't get in to activate it.

Any thoughts on why? I'll have to review the coding I used for enabling the hidden menu, because maybe I messed up a selection somewhere.

Is that 3G or 2G? Sorry, not familiar with which models got 3G in 09.

That might be the difference. Those instructions were for 3G. Another post above mentioned something for 2G.

So do we know for sure that the battery meter can even be enabled in the 2G MMI? I've got the hidden menu enabled, but cannot select the car submenu within it. Perhaps that is a 3G-only capability?

The battery meter can be enabled in the "hidden menu" as I described it in my post

EDIT: To get into the "hidden menu" you need to press "Car+Setup" together until hidden menu appears (about 6 sec.)

I thought that Audi switched all 2010 models to 3G MMI, which has the joystick in lieu of the 2G knob?

Sorry if I'm not being clear. I can get to the hidden menu, but although there is a "car" option there, it cannot be selected. I'm wondering whether the options available via that submenu are not available with the 2G MMI.

Sorry to hijack this post. This conversation would have been better served in the VAG-COM thread.

It is possible with MMI 2G - I have enabled it on my 2009 A4.

There are no "Car" menu in the hidden menu - if I remember correct.

I did it under "DIAG SETTINGS"->"Car MenĂ¼s Maske"

    EDIT: added photos...

Thanks for that, as I now have it activated. However, I don't see the battery meter anywhere. Is it supposed to be in the "Car" menu, similar to the Oil Level meter?

If you set the value to 0 the MMI item will be disabled while driving, and if the value is set to 5 it will be active while driving.

And the rest of the numbers? What if it is set at 4, or like the pressure at 9? Is there a list of all the numbers' functions?

No - the "hidden menu" isn't documented (non supported), and therefore no one can give you the exact description about what the numbers do - or not do.

The only way to figure out what the numbers do (or not do), is by trying them out, and hope that you don't destroy any thing.

Stab in the dark - it you use VCDS to enable the "courtesty" program, then you have the ability in the MMI to turn on allowing or disallowing the windows and roof to open when holding the unlock button down on the key fob (or close if you hodl down lock), but the roof onlt tilts open. This perhaps allows it to slide open instead?

** edit, while looking for a way to do a line in for video addition to the MMI (I know it can be done, someone had a shop do it from their iPod), I ran across a EU company which will use their VCDS to enable the VIM hack for you - for 100 euros on the 2G MMI and 150 for the 3G. I've been getting gyped doing it for people for free!

Avg oil temsp vary depending on driving speends, stop and go, and elevation changes. Typical is 204-206F in 60 degrees temp stop and go on roads with 35-45MPH zones. Highway travel at 70MPH is about 214-220 at 60 degrees outside.

Hey guys I've been peeping around Audizine for several months now, getting ready for the S4 soon. So let me get this straight, the 2010 all come with the MMI 2G in North America?

Negative, all B8 S4's have the 3G MMI. Come 2012, all Audi will have the new Terga based MMI like is debuting in the new A8 this 2011 year.

All Nav equipped B8 S4's have the 3G MMI, without Nav you get MMI "Basic".

But isn't the MMI basic without NAV still the 3G (3rd Gen) version? Do you have to use 2G MMI menu settings if you don't have Nav in order to get things to work?

So will the Terga version be available to upgrade for our 2010 S4s once time comes?
