RS4 Conrod BEARINGS differnet from S4???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I ordered a set of Conrod Bearings (std. size) for for my RS4(ASJengine) from my parts source in the States.
What arrived was almost .5mm thicker!
Looks like std.RS4 conrod bearings is NOT thesame as std.S4 ones! :(

So do you have a S4 motor or an RS4 motor as you stated? Shouldn't the bearings you ordered be for your motor since they are RS4 bearings? Please clarify.

More than likely, just give them a call and they should straighten everything out for you.

    Just did.
I guess will have to source CONROD Bearings from Europe as it is an RS4(2.7T) exclusive CONROD Bearing and is different from the S4(2.7T) ones. :(

He has an RS4... and ordered S4 bearings from 034 when he needed RS4 bearings... Not an RS4 engine, since it comes stock with his car.

Yup S4 main bearings work....but definitely the S4 Conrod bearings DONT fit on RS4 crank shaft....verified it with Audi importer. Also discussions on RS246.com say its not thesame.

Wierd.. Unless I was sold an S4 crank and was just told it was RS4.
Would the S4 bearings be significantly noticable in difference? Or would it be easy to make a mistake..

Re: RS4 Conrod BEARINGS differnet from S4???

Engines ASJ and AZR were the only engines used in the RS4(B5)...and both have Conrod Bearing pn# 07B105701M(upper) and 07B105701L(lower). These conrod bearings differ from what is used in the S4. So I guess you might not have an 'RS4' crank. :(

Doesn't audi offer different size bearings i believe they do, I would mic everything first to make sure I can't see one bearing fitting everything

The RS4 and S4 only share the main bearings, fact.

Jeff if your connecting rod bearings were the same you got ripped off.

I got it from Brett @ APR when he was selling all that stuff on Ebay.
Is it possible to make the mistake of putting S4 rod bearings with the RS4 crank? Or is it pretty obvious.

It is a big enough different that it would be noticed, basically wouldnt work. I doubt Brett would knowingly sell you a bunk crank because he is a stand up guy. So not sure where the disconnect happened.

Re: RS4 Conrod BEARINGS differnet from S4???

Both crankshafts (S4 and RS4) have the same diameter in the con rod "neck". So both bearings WILL fit (ID is the same), but you cannot mix S4 con rods and RS4 con rod bearings or vice versa because the OD is different.

Re: RS4 Conrod BEARINGS differnet from S4???

S4 Conrod Bearings(CRB) are almost .5mm thicker...I ordered an S4 CRB from 034 motorsport and had to return them and ship them back to the States because of the 5mm difference in size. I had to order the OEM CRB from a parts importer in Singapore and they confirmed that the S4 CRB and the RS4 CRB are different( thickness)...Dan@034motorsports said thesame thing too (s4 not thesame from RS4)after he did more checking.

Re: RS4 Conrod BEARINGS differnet from S4???

Yes, the CRB thickness is different, but the ID of the bearings are the same. Meaning that the S4 and RS4 crankshaft measures are the same. You can use both bearings with those, but you have to choose the con rods according to your con rod bearings, I.E. S4 con rod with a S4 CRB, and RS4 con rod with a RS4 CRB.

Ohh, ok that makes sense. I am running Pauter rods, make to S4 spec.. so S4 rod bearings will work fine.

Re: RS4 Conrod BEARINGS differnet from S4???

I made some measurements to proof it :) The RS4 con rod big end is 56.95 mm, and S4 is 57.75 mm. The bearing shell thickness is 1.4 mm in RS4, and 1.85 mm in S4. These are not absolutely accurate measurements, but close enough.

If you calculate the crank's big end diameter, you get the (almost) same.

The con rod bolts are 9 mm in RS4, and about 8 mm in S4. The upper one is from RS4. I think that this is the reason why they had to use different bearings.

The con rods look quite the same.
