A6 APR stage 1 tune w/intake first thoughts

Got around to installing the stage 1 APR high torque tune along with the APR carbon fiber intake today on my C8 A6 3.0t. First thing is the intake was mostly super simple to install except for one bottom bolt on the front of the turbo housing that is almost next to impossible to get to. Other than that it was still installed within about a half hour to 45 minutes. After that I uploaded the tune. My first thoughts are I really like it. “Launch control” really doesn’t seem different than stock in my opinion and that would be my only complaint is I wish it had a higher rpm limit when launching from a dig. I drove/launched it like I stole it a handful of times and didn’t notice any slipping of the trans or got any warnings *yet* but fingers crossed that I don’t. Car is definitely a lot quicker, more torquey and runs really well. The car was running hot when I got home but I chalk it up to the way I drove it for a while after uploading the tune. My Audi pre sense and high beam assist were going nuts and it took a couple drive cycles for it to figure itself out but all is good now and clear. If anyone has any questions let me know!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the tune! I'm running the Stage 1 (93) APR low torque tune with APR carbon fiber intake on my C8 A7 3.0t and really love it. Used the APR handheld tuner and was a breeze.

I considered running the high torque tune, but the 7spd DSG in the A7 really isn't built for it stock and there are no programs available. I called APR and they said I could do it but might see heat warnings, but that people do it. Not sure it's worth it.

Super thrilled with the performance, whole thing really wakes up the car. I got pretty lucky and the previous owner had already put the intake on and paid for the tunes, so all I had to do was buy the tuner and flash it. APR was amazing as well and didn't charge me a transfer fee. They have been really helpful.

Only issue I had with the tuning was getting the trouble codes to clear properly. Sounds like you had some similar difficulties. I'm not sure if it just varies by vehicle or what, because APR's procedures are contradictory. Their video says Clear Codes > Key Off > Key On ... but the program says the opposite, to key off > on > clear codes. The video directions were what worked in the end for me. When I did it per the program's directions, I had to use OBD Eleven to clear the faults.

Have you tried the low torque vs. high torque tunes?

Interested to give launch control a try, what are the steps for that?

Sline6, glad it seems well so far, I take it this means you sorted out the water pump issue before the tune went on! When you say the car was running hot, will you elaborate a bit? Do you have detail like oil temp, trans temp, etc. or was there just an extra dash on the engine temp in the info cluster type of thing?

I ended up going JB4, using Map 2 & 3, and liking the results so far, but haven't been driving it like I stole it yet, and have never used launch control.

I also have AWE (Touring) Exhaust, which I love the sounds, maintains rear bumper cover and stock sleeper fake exhaust tip look, and the APR CF Intake. I think that one lower turbo housing bolt took me a good half hour by itself! I ended up using a close enough sized allen wrench attached to a needle nose channel lock plier to finally unscrew that thing one very short movement at a time. Total PITA.

I haven’t tried the low TQ tune I went straight to the high TQ file and haven’t had any issues at all and no warnings. I don’t exactly baby it either my girl makes me put it in comfort mode when she rides with me because it’s rowdy in Dynamic and she’s not always a fan lol.

Got the water pump squared away and everything was replaced under my extended warranty. Cost me $100 bucks as that is my deductible. I ended up getting an aftermarket rear valance to compliment my quad tips to get rid of the cut stock one even though it looked fine. No warnings of any kind I just notice when I drive it hard back to back the temp seems to just sit a little higher. Sounds identical to me almost with that lower turbo housing bolt haha. I have an APR Turbo muffler delete too but honestly not sure I even care to put it in because I’m assuming that will be a huge PITA too.

So I figured out that when I put the shifter over into “manual mode” the launch control does not change from the way it was stock. When I leave the shifter in its normal position and keep it on S it gets REAL ROWDY lol. Launched it for the first time that way yesterday and everything in the front of the car ended up in the back seat hahaha.

Turn off traction control, make sure the car is in dynamic and on S. Hold the brake, press the gas.
