///HELP NEEDED/// Chirping Noise from Supercharger Upon Cold Start

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi all, I am facing an issue with my B8 S4.

1 month ago, I replaced both the SC & Crank pulley to IE's 57.5 & 188mm pulley & recently I encounter a chirping noise upon cold start

Got it sent in to the workshop later & was informed coolant pump is gone (Pump was replaced together with both pulleys & heat exchanger)

And now, I have replaced a 2nd coolant pump, 2 x tensioners & 2 x pulleys at the bottom of the engine & got the supercharger oil replaced.

Sound persisted, was recommended to change to a new belt by the workshop & was informed by IE belt number should be 7PK1320.

Despite changing to a new belt, the sound persisted and I am at my wits end thus seeking for help in the forum.

Link to the video and photos of the pulleys and tensioners changed as below

Any chance your tensioner pulley is a bit loose?

Hi! Thanks for the input. Now my mechanic is suggesting to replace a new supercharger. Lets hope it works.

At that point you’d been better off purchasing an entire new car. Guess it’s the love that counts!

Yes, I know, man. Things will definitely ease up in the near future and I’m sure that you’ll get into something… Either that or as soon as I hit the lotto I get you covered for the car of your choice! 🫡

i was chasing this noise for a couple months last year...
currently using a 6 rib belt that has always worked.

    tried a 7 rib belt
went down a size in belts to try and make it 'tighter'
    replaced both tensioners
    water pump/pulley
    idler rollers

in the end, it was the alternator pulley causing the noise
The same throttle body and corn toon as everyone else.
A ported blower and the mega bitch pulley.
Lots of water and wheels lighter than my bank account.

Check the actual crank pulley bolts while you're in there. Pull the supercharger belt off completely and start it. If it stops at least you narrowed it down to that belt or pulleys

I replaced a SC and the noise still persisted. In the end we replaced back to a stock crank pulley and the noise stopped.

I revert back to stock crank pulley, SC pulley and belt now the car runs fine.

    All that for nothing!

    paid $39.56 BTW

So a 7PK1300 belt can fit the 57.5 and 188m pulley as well?

Am out of alternatives now. Sigh.

Alternator pulley is fine. Noise is gone after I got rid of the IE crank pulley and revert back to stock crank pulley.

Thank you all for your assistance. It appears that the mechanics did not follow IE's installation guidelines, which resulted in an improper setup & causing the chirping noise.

I am now seeking support from another workshop that is capable of properly calibrating the IE throttle body with their tuning expertise.

Unfortunately, I have wasted a significant amount of time & money at the previous workshop, as they had assured me they could perform custom tuning for the IE throttle body and dual pulley setup.

I would also like to check if anyone is running an IE 188mm crank pulley with a 57.5mm supercharger pulley and has experience with or without the IE enlarged throttle body. Does it truly make a noticeable difference?

If you have ie and a cable (or vcds) you should be able to Calibrate the tb yourself. Their is no "custom tuning" if you have ie.
A larger tb is ok, but without a ported blower to match, is kinda useless

I had the car tuned to a stage 3 map as per the workshop's tuner with my dual pulleys (IE 57.5mm sc & 188mm crank) & heat exchanger upgrade.

However he mentioned he was unable to calibrate the IE throttle body to my car thus the car was left running on IE dual pulleys, merc racing heat exchanger & stock throttle body.

When the chirping noise surfaced 1 month later after the above works, I had the crank pulley reverted back to stock since it was causing the chirping noise & am running on a 57.5mm pulley now with a stage 1 map.

Right now, I am thinking of going to another workshop to have the IE's 188mm crank pulley & IE's enlarged throttle body installed and have the car flashed with IE's map.

However, my concern is the previous tuner did the tuning by benching my ECU & am worried that if I flash the IE's map, my ECU might get bricked.

My options are really limited now with the previous workshop bringing me on a wild goose chase & apparently they did not follow IE's installation guide during the installation work.

did you make sure you had the correct belt when running both pullies?

Yeah I did. I bought a new belt with the same specs provided by IE.
