    Swapped Steering Wheel Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys I purchased a flat bottom steering wheel from a forum member for my 2013 S6. Originally my car had a round heated steering wheel. My mechanic swapped everything over this weekend and I'm trying to figure out if the * button will even work and if so can I program it to cycle through the drive modes, Comfort/Auto/Dynamic/etc... When the swap was completed there was no where for the heating element plug to go so it was tucked away but I don't know if the factory harness is pinned for this new "wild card" button.

    Any input is appreciated.

Anyone? I promise I've searched the forum to the best of my ability and haven't found this specific scenario covered already.

I believe AZ member Audisthesia knows about these steering wheels. Maybe send a Private Message?

The * button (aka joker button) cannot be programmed to do drive select modes, unless you have an ambrace module. The harness is indeed pinned for the * button, it should be functional.

IIRC, the drive select button will not work with MY 2013, I think it started with the FL 2016. OE/OEM flat-bottom steering wheels were never heated. I thought I could code the Drive-select buttons just as you would the paddle shifters, but no go.

Thank you for all the information. If DS is out of the question what do you recommend the most useful function to program it through OBD11 to be?

I programmed it to be the >> or "Next" button. That way you rarely need to drop your hand from the wheel, since you have volume and next in the same area!

My '13 A5 did this in the MMI from Audi, but my '14 S6 does not. Gotta love what Audi engineers think is important for different drivers!

    Cheers,

I did a A8 wheel swap for the paddles with heat. My issue is heat is on all the time and the heat button is now a "M*" that switches the trans to manual mode... Thats kinda nice. I do want an "S" wheel tho.

Looked up Ambrace as I didn't understand what it was https://www.ambrace.eu/products/.

When I did the wife's Passat "LIN 1.3" to CC "LIN2" (single to dual air bag ignitor and horn pin changes) steering wheel swap in her Passat, all that was needed was the correct control module in the steering column that could talk both ways. I assume folks have already looked at that for our cars. Just spit balling as usual.

This is what I did as well. Sucks that the prefacelift can't have a cool function for it

Do I need to enable any settings in OBD11 to take advantage of the star button? I had the factory heated steering wheel prior to this.
