RS6 vs M5 and fuel economy

Just a few thoughts recently for those who are interested.
I tried driving around in comfort mode recently as I have only known RS1 for the last few years because I am finding the older I get the more chill I am while driving. For better or worse.
The shifts were a little bit annoying as well, very aggressive all the time which for me feels unecessary.
I am getting shockingly good fuel economy now driving exclusively in comfort mode, saving almost 50% it's crazy. I assumed it would be very similar between modes but if I understand it correctly the car goes into 4-cylinder mode more often while cruising.
Whatever the reason, the gas bills are fewer and farther between, I like! Comfy cruiser with the family or brutal beast at the flick of a button.

Secondly, saw a new green M5 sedan the other day who pulled up beside me and of course he floored it just to show off.
I have to say, the front and side look ok, it could grow on me, the back is hideous, they really screwed the pooch on that.
Too bad really, it could have been a contender but I would take my RS6 perf every day of the week over that thing.

One could argue that the E63 S or new BMW M5 are better. That's irrelevant when they look like they do.

BINGO! The functional differences are small but the visual ones are huge!

Haha bingo jmg. And straight line speed while being ugly is a market already cornered by Tesla.

Op- I’m going to try this, even tho I’ll miss the exhaust sound. Mine acts like it’s got a hole in the gas tank. That and the sidelong raise not being gps operated are the only things I can moan about though. Such a wonderful car and so true to the 2002 original (auto, Quattro, tt v8).

Hah. In the city I'm lucky to get 9mpg. I've managed a whopping great 21mpg on the highway when in comfort mode. I can get 28mpg in my 911 and it's tuned.

Ate you saying in RS1 mode you find the shifts aggressive and annoying? It’s definitely items different than the other modes. Not sure if you wanted the car to be gentle in that mode.

I spend most of the time in AUTO mode. I get an average of 16-18mpg around town and have seen as much as 28mpg @ 80-85 MPH on the highway. I am not gentile with the throttle either.

I am now into my second week after trading my '19 M5 for a '24 RS7. I have been learning the ins/outs of the car but this is the first thing that hit me last week...Man this car consumes alot of gas. I drive about 700miles/month so not a ton and have already had to fill up yesterday. I have been fooling around with drive functions and for sure there is a big difference in power and performance just shifting from D to S. However, I could usually go several weeks without filling up the M5

These cars are certainly thirsty but one thing that I find exacerbates the perception of fuel consumption is how big the reserve is thus how small the effective tanks is, leading to very frequent fillips.

If I drive my car to “[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]” miles on the fuel range remaining, I can still only put ~[emoji6].[emoji6] gallons in it before it’s full yet its a [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]. gallon tank.

The RS7 is a larger, more powerful and much heavier vehicle - was the expectation that fuel economy would be the same or better?

Well compared to my old 2021 RS6 RS1/RS2 shifts are definitely sharper and aggressive leading to lurching at times...unless i'm being a d-bag and flooring it everywhere.
I now usually drive in comfort mode unless I feel in the mood for RS1 and want to overtake....well anything.
