    Voltage regulator?

    I did a quick Google search and it looks like the B5 cars have a voltage regulator in the alternator? Anyone have the correct part number for the regulator? My avant has the 2.8 V6 and would like to know if it a difficult job to change?
    Current: 01 A4QM avant daily driver.


    Past: 92 ABZ 100CSQM avant, 97 A6Q avant, 93 S4, 95.5 avant, 93 S4, 91 10vt CQ, 98.5 SC'd & IC'd A4QM sedan.

    Yes voltage regulator is part of the brush pack assembly. You just take apart the rear plastic cover of the alternator and you can get to it. On a 2.8 this will be a fairly big job as you will need to remove the alternator to do it, and the alternator is not in an easy location. On the 1.8T, you can technically remove the regulator with the alternator in place, but I don't know if it saves any time, really. It's kind of hard to do. But the alternator is not very difficult to remove.

    There are 2 different regulators depending if the alternator is made by Valeo or Bosch. Other than the brand difference, I believe the regulator will interchange between a 90 Amp vs 120 Amp of the same brand.
