Crank No Start - Fuel Pump Not Priming?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Went to start my car two days ago and it only cranks. When I open the door the fuel pump primes maybe a second but not longer like I remember it being. I checked Fuse 28 for the pump and it is all fine, I’ve swapped with a few others I know work. What else could it be?

Have you checked your actual fuel pressure?
Check groups 230/231 with VCDS to check if it's building pressure.

Haven’t gotten around to getting VCDS and the tools necessary for it - however pump assembly is all completely new and worked just fine last week.

I'd get yourself a vcds cable. Without being able to read live data and data log, you're just guessing.

Holy sh*t that's a LOT of codes, lol. I don't see anything for engine control module.? Clear codes and see what comes back.

If you turn your key to accessory mode, is the mil/cel illuminated? If the cel/mil is not on with the key in accessory position, than there is in fact no communication with the ECM.

I had a similar issue with one of my previous B7s. I ended up having an issue in the module under the driver seat (can't remember if central electrics or not)that stopped my ECM from getting power to wake up intermittently. In my case I couldn't even scan into the ECM with VCDS.

Here’s a picture of the cluster in accessory position, it’s definitely missing the CEL.

So no communication at all then. Is your car parked inside or outside more often before this happened? It could simply be the relays under ECM behind the false firewall. If the drains under the cowl back up, water can rise and work its way into the ECM box. The seal on those boxes aren't the greatest when it comes to standing water and being a number of years old. Unfortunately to get into it to check you have to pull the wiper arms, then separate the cowl from the bottom of the windshield and then you can use a Torx-30 to remove the screws holding the ECM box closed.

Pulling the wiper arms can be a bitch if they've never been off though; I would recommend a puller. If it's not that case, send me you vin and if I have some free time I can try to pull up the wiring diagrams and find which wires through supply power and the wake up signal for ecm

Car is always parked inside, no water could’ve gotten under the ECM cover. I’m leaning towards a fuse.

Planned to have the car trailered up to the shop Monday anyway to have the ABS light coded in, will have everything checked at the same time now.

Ended up being a fuse in the ECM box that blew. Replaced it and car started right up.
