My 1999 Avant developed a coolant leak a week ago in the most inconvenient place possible, the rear of the engine. Coolant is draining from block area onto transmission and puddling under the car on the drivers side, but no overheating issues; albeit, I'm not driving it too much. Initial thought was heater core return line, so I replaced it but still leaking. I bypassed the heater core itself to see if that would solve the mystery leak but it is still leaking. After a deep inspection, I believe it to be the inlet heater core line (feels/looks like the quick release clamp on engine side has failed). Coolant seems to be running from that hose along the main coolant pipe and getting everything wet, so it's a bit hard to tell. So, 2 questions - 1. what is the best approach to go in and remove / replace the heater core inlet line? After about an hour of reaching and coming at it from different angles, I can't seem to be able to reach it. 2. If the leak persists, what else can be causing coolant to drain onto the top of the transmission like this?
