    Remote Start!?!?!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Someone posted this link in a FB thread for a remote start system specifically for C7 S6s. Has anyone every heard of this? It says no cutting/splicing wires, no removing panels, don’t need a spare key....seems too good to be true?

Yeah, I posted that, it does seem pretty awesome, the best is it's all plug and play and installable from the trunk. I don't really need it but seems like a nice luxury

I have the parts listed below in my 2013 A7 3.0T. I can confirm there is now cutting its all plug and play. Models that have the smart/inteli key will not have to give up a key. You do have to remove panels to run wires and connect the T-harness to the BCM. Systems works great and no issues at all. Have been running this for 4 months. I also have cell phone start, so I do not have an additional key fob or a antenna mount to the windshield. I do have the actual remote start unit programmed to start the car using the OEM fob when you press lock 3X's.

    Parts

Idatalink CMVWXA0 - remote start unit

    Idatalink ADS-THR-AU2 - Tharnesss

For cell start you can use any of them out there. Drone, Viper smartstart or whatever else.

I think retail you will pay around $300 in parts. If you want cell start that will be more, plus yearly service fee for that also.

Where would you get those parts for that $? It’s like $700 on the website.

He's talking about a different manufacturer than the one you posted originally, he posted the parts he had installed. They are about 300 online. His installed needed to remove some panels and to install a t harness to the BCM, which I have no idea about

Did your install involve any splicing or straight up plug and play?

Every Remote start kit on the market has their own module and pretty much every car after mid 2000s need some sort of security bypass module to allow you to start the car without keys. Newer remote start kits have the bypass built in which is the case on the parts I listed. Every remote start kit needs to some how tie into the OEM BCM or start wires and CAN high and low wires to make it work. SO you will need to cut and splice if no t-harness is available. Most Audi's after 2013 have a T-harness from Idatalink, so there is no cutting or splicing. You will have to remove some panels on every remote start kit regardless of the make or model. I use to install remote start systems for a living so pm me if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the info, just curious but I'm probably not going to install anytime soon. Also curious because the product in the OP advertises that their install is totally in the trunk and you do NOT need to remove any panels, which seems like a bonus for the diy.

Well Yes on the A7 its in the trunk on the passenger side and you have to remove the fuse cover panel and I had to removed the spare tire panels and the passenger side trunk panel partly (I removed some bolts and loosened the rest so I could get at the BCM to install T-harness). I'm guessing the link the OP posted is done the same way.

Gotcha. I saw some of those other installs and even with the harness they had to do some splicing and removal of dash panels, like with s4. I hate the idea of creaking noises from the dash.i guess the s6 BCM is also in trunk since the are advertising you do not need to do anything inside the cabin

On the 2012+ A6/A7 3.0T/S6/S7/RS6/RS7 with the parts I listed its is 100% plug and play NO CUTTING OR SPLICING. Its all installed in the trunk on the passenger side. Nothing is installed under dash or in the front of the car. Also remember that remote starts are great for the hot summer days too, cool the cabin down before you get in!

What is the best place to buy these items? Seems there are so many options I want to make sure I'm looking in the right place. I'd be doing install myself, so I want to make sure I have something I know will work for the right price.

If you're just buying the harness and control unit, I'd just buy it online

Most ads for the idatalink module you mentioned also recommended "iDatalink ADS-USB Weblink Updater Flash loader USB Cable ADSUSB". Is that also necessary in your experience to get it programmed to work m

Install specific question on the idatalink set up, I looked up the install guide and looks pretty diy. The only questions I have are the warnings in the install guide, number 10 says to disconnect power last, and disconnect module from vehicle. I don't understand that since there are no separate power connectors on the module.

Number 12 also mentions to install power first then connect module to car.

Its referring to the connector that goes to the remote start module that has power in it. It gets power from the t-harness and only one connector that goes to the module will have it. When it says "and then disconnect from vehicle" it's talking about the connectors that don't have power, but contain vehicle information connections.

    Hopefully that makes sense?

Also Idk best place to buy online. I had dealer accounts with a distributor of remote start products.

Yep, makes perfect sense to me, but I was hoping that they would say which connector actually had the power for the module. The install diagram does not make that clear at all.

I have the Compustar remote start and optional security set-up and there was no splicing of any wires and there is no requirement for a key.. Plug and Play.. Not sure how it compares to the remote starters being mentioned in this thread, but I've had no issues with the Compustar unit and I really like the 3 mile range with 2 way remote..

They do mention the compustar unit in since of the ads for the idatalink unit, maybe it's the OEM/ branded version. Did you diy your install?

I had a shop perform the install so I could get the warranty, plus the shop I went to also offers to remove the whole thing if I have to go in to the dealer for any electrical issues so that the dealer doesn't blame the remote stater when it's actually something else....

Off the top of my head, I think the model was the T12, but that might have been the key-fob part number, can't remember.. I'll see if I can dig up the paperwork to check if it they wrote in a specific model number..

I just bought this one, it is the two parts required for our cars. The key fobs are a separate purchase, as well as the cell phone capabilities.

Yep, that's the one kthorpe88 mentioned. When you install yours, please give an update on how the install goes. I was wondering if you needed to buy the ads USB cable also since there's some programming that you have to do to the module. It's the step 11 of the install guide. Also I had some questions regarding disconnecting the power connections last vs the other data cables first. I tried calling idatalink/ idatastart to ask and all they would say is to contact the installer or place of purchase

I have the ads cable you are talking about since I installed so many and some older models require that cable to program the unit. But I'm 95% sure these have a mini usb plug on them and you can just use the standard cable to plug into your computer to set it all up. You will probably have to make an account on idatalinks site. Side note Idatalink builds a majority of the remote start kits out there and they are re-branded as Viper which is best buys brand and compustar is also made by Idatalink all in Canada!

Do you know of any install videos or instructions online?

I’ve read and reread instructions, but I can’t find where exactly the BCM is located on a C7.5 S6! Everything I see is for the S8 which has the module in the back of the rear seat

According to the instructions from iDatalink, it should be in the RIGHT (passenger) rear of the trunk - the letter "A" on the diagram.
