Rebuilding waiting on pistons/rods now (IE) and arp studs, will bore that cylinder first to see if the gashes are to deep, if so i have another engine lined up out of a 22 q5 that i will build with my head and oil pans

Got block back from machine shop quicker than I expected. All good bored to 83mm waiting on parts from FCP now.

So got all the parts i ordered (hopefully everything i need). was freezing all last week so didnt do much got block cleaned up last night going to finish taping it up and paint it today and then hopefully start getting it assembled.

Brand new bearings came all scratched and gouged so on hold again, hand polished crank it turned out well

Ok after getting 3 sets of scratched bearings from FCP Euro they refused to send anymore. Ordered from VW direct they came the other day and are good. in middle of polishing the head once that is done will start assembling the block.

yes shipped loose in bag, they were supposed ship a 4th time but after a week they sent an email they were refunding my money. Someone told me the mk8 bearings are same just coated had i known before i ordered from vw would have ordered those.

was hoping to make progress over the weekend but starter died in the avant so was dealing with that. complete PITA have to remove motor mount to pull starter on the b8.

If it’s any consolation I had to do that too on my TDI Q7.

ugh slowly making progress short block assembled, but after way to many hours porting and polishing head found crack in head

ok found head at junkyard about 30 miles from the house so picked it up, back to porting and polishing.

No cracks in the junkyard head, couple a valve guides wore out. Will replace them all after i finish porting and polishing.
