    Does this engine sound healthy?

This is a new to me 2015 Q7 with 75K miles on the clock. It's been way too cold here to spend any time poking around the engine bay, so I haven't been able to get in there and give it a good looking over. I've scanned for codes and nothing engine related came up. I've noticed some minor chain rattle on a couple cold starts, but most of the time the cold start seems fine. When I first picked up the car, the engine was super quiet. This video is from the other day when it sounded louder than usual. There's a high pitched rattle sound coming from near the back chain cover. You can hear this around the 13 second mark in the video. Also, does that knocking sound at near the front passenger side at the 4 second mark sound normal? Any opinions on this would be appreciated.

I would bet 20 bucks that a complete oil change with 502 spec oil such as liquimoly 40w or the Mobil European 40w 7.2qt properly measured will fix the noise . I recognize the sound at sixteen second mark from when my car used to leak oil from bad valve cover gasket / reused drain plug . You’re running a quart low on probably 30w oil by sounds of it. If you open the oil cap while engine running it’ll make the sixteen second type of noise even louder.

Good ear! The oil was recently changed by the dealer but I don't know whether it was done properly.

Clickety clack i hear normal gdi injector/ hp pump noises. They will be noisy and quiet at times. Maybe something on the accessory package making noise too….hard to tell. Yes on the good 501/502 spec syn 5/40 10/30 syn, however, no thats not making ANY of your noise unless it was down 3qts or more on the expressway meaning worse problems….Chain rattle on a cold start “sometimes” means you need to replace the upper tensioner(s) sooner than later due to bleed down. Likely bc previous owner did 15k oil changes or worse. Back of the engine i did hear possible air chirping through the vent tube going to oil separator/supercharger racket….i did not hear chain slapping around in the back cover, and you say theres no timing codes….
