Ok. So I’m ending up with a motor from a 2017 with 43k on it. $300 out of pocket if I want the turbo and manifold or $0 if I want to use the hardware from my motor

Yeah. They made him do like 4 more tests. And they approved the swap right away. I already got the confirmation from Silver Rock. The warranty company

being repaired as we speak ??

if i were you i would take them a new chain if they plan on just covering pistons.. which the warranty might only cover. my 14 had old style chain ..

they have to take the chain off anyway and throw it to the side . id take them a new one and new guides to put on is they are willing to do that.

if its done at Audi they will charge you more but either way, if its old style pay for the new one and you are golden for miles

edit: oh i missed a few post above me .. looks like you are good to go .. well played..

Yeah. They’re doing a whole swap. But I am bringing him PCV, Coils, Plugs, Chain and he’s gonna put all that on the new setup before he drops it in. The mechanic is a super nice guy. He must be ripping their eyes out for the work. lol.

I have a little experience with carvana, I bought my wife’s 18 rs3 from them, did not any type of carvana extended warranty just the included I think 60 day plus remainder of factory. Shortly after I realized that one of the rear tires was the wrong size, car had the staggered set up from factory, although tires were new. I contacted carvana and they told me to take it to the repair shop and have them confirm. Took it to Audi and they also found the car had a busted skid plate and secondary cat. Carvana said they include their initial warranty for issues that were missed on their inspection. They not only covered all the expense but also replaced all 4 tires. All they want is documentation and correspondence with the repair shop.

Yeah. I was impressed with how no hassle this whole transaction was. They even offered $600 in rental car reimbursement

i think he will de using it on your motor actually. the turbo and exhaust manifold are all one on that car .. i do need one and its too bad your country and my country are at odds right now and it is not favorable to ship parts or even cross the border right now to get them

But you should be able to sell a few parts off that motor if you have access to it.

So possible issue. The replacement motor is from a 2017 Q7 which I understand makes a few more bhp and torque. I would assume from upgraded fuel system or the like. But the mechanic said he was able to drop it in and turn key. Should my ECU have been programmed for this motor?

if you look on the engine sticker the first the letters dictate the engine type, the third indicate the ECU program

CAEB and CAED are the same hardware and one runs a B ecu the other a D

i would think no new ECU is needed and might actually complicate things with component protection and the way the immobilizer works.. Im not sure exactly , but i would keep things simple like you did ..

This car i see has a metal intake, did you old one have that too ?

I’m not 100% sure on that. But he did mention he made sure he grabbed a motor with the same code. He said as long as the code on the motor matches the code type of my car the it should be a drop and go. Him not being any kind of European or Audi “specialist” I just figured I’d come here for more input. So I do feel much better that you confirmed what he had said. I just wanna make sure I’m not gonna end up waxing my fender with a piston or something. Or have any issues in the future with the car running hurt under the radar.

naw you will be fine .. not have any pics of your old engine in the car ???

what were the engines you put in and took out ??

SMAC knows these engines cold and can likely tell you the engine code by looking at it

i think your car is an Automatic and that might be a CPMB , with your original being a CPMA maybe ?? the metal intake indicate E-85 compliant and i don't think the manuals had those.. im sure someone will correct me on the codes if im wrong, but bottom line is you are good to go.. just change oil around 5K km and you will be good to go ..

Yes. The car is E85 capable. And his main focus was matching the codes. So since I don’t really know much about these cars still. Am I getting the extra power this motor produced?

I’m having an issue with the car now. Intermittently. Depending on throttle position. When I accelerate at a semi aggressive rate, for instance, to merge onto a parkway, when accelerating from about 30mph the car will nose dive and then slam into gear or downshift at what seems like a terrible time and then slam into the next gear. Is something out of sync between the ECU/TCU?

CEL or EPC light?, scan for codes.
Did they reuse the old spark plugs and coils?

I have no CEL. I am making appointment to have it scanned asap. As far as plugs and coils I assume whatever was on the replacement motor was used. I’ll find out more tomorrow.

HELP!!! On a roadtrip. Driving as I write. Was running the car on cruise control at 80 mph for about 10 miles and got a transmission malfunction warning. I’m hoping it’s software related due to the repair shop not touching the ECU/TCU after installation. Any immediate feedback would be appreciated.

Sorry but if you were having what seems like significant transmission issues, why would you take it on a road trip? Let alone drive it at all?

I'm no expert but to me this sounds like the transmission was low on fluid. Not enough hydraulic pressure can cause shifting issues like you described.

It was very intermittent. And only when in S mode. “Road trip” might have been a little much. It was supposed to be like 90 miles. Regardless. Clearly the CU’s had to be synced with the new motor. Because from what I’ve gathered. Being under constant load on CC, the miscommunication between the 2 obliterated the internals. Car doesn’t engage any gears at this point. And Silverock most likely isn’t going to repair this anyway because of repair/value ratio. So I’m guessing I’ll be looking at a replacement vehicle. I’d prefer to keep this one seeing as it has a newer engine. Either way. This story continues…

ZF8s are easier and cheaper to come by as they aren’t failure prone, I’ve seen people give them away.

That said, the ECU and TCU shouldn’t have been touched with your motor swap, only flex plate/bolts.

    So. Is this failure coincidental?
