    Hi All,

My first post in a quite some time is not for a great reason. I need some help deciding what to do....

I was in a minor accident with my 2016 Q5 TDI S-Line PP+ just minor damage to the front bumper and also the right fender, headlight, and other internal parts need to be replaced. The car has 138k on the odo. As we know these diesels can last forever and the car is in great shape otherwise. The insurance company deemed it a total loss due to the cost of the repairs being over $10k! Now im stuck with having to get rid of the car which I never wanted to do, or take a payout and fix but receive a Salvage Title.

My question is what is does everyone think of owning this thing with a Salvage or Rebuilt Title? How much does that hurt the resale value of this thing when I finally want to move on from it? The packages of this and the fact its a 2016 TDI is pretty rare, so I don't really know

    TIA

Sounds like your situation is my twin, except it was my left fender.
The TDI was my "run it into the ground" Q5, but the insurance company offered me more than I paid for it even after I'd put 50K on it. So I moved on to a 2017 3.0.
200K later and an ECU/TCU software upgrade later I'm not regreting the decision to move on.
If you can get a good settlement from your insurnace then maybe it's time to move one and suck up the increase in fuel costs :)

Bummer. Just went through this with my wifes Q3. Sucked, but we got negotiated a good payout considering the market for those cars and used the opportunity to upgrade. If it was not your fault maybe you will have some additional leverage negotiating a higher payout. Look for similar comps to get a higher offer.

    You have basically 3 options:
    - accept total loss and release car
    - accept total loss and retain car (lower payout)
    - drop claim, get nothing, but keep a clean title

If you like the car you can try to purchase back at auction.

Salvage title will definitely hurt the value but an Audi with 150k miles won't get top dollar anyway. Also check with your insurer on salvage vehicles. Typically won't cover with comprehensive, liability only.

Thanks for the input guys! Yeah, I decided to just accept the total loss and move on to something else, I loved the car but after driving it for 5.5 years, my eye was beginning to wander. Now to deiced between a 2017-18 Macan GTS or 2021-22 Audi SQ5, hmmmm
