    Manual swap in a 2007 S4 convertible

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I picked up a 2006 S4 with a manual as a parts car. It apparently does not run due to electrical issues, I haven’t dug into it yet.
I want to take the manual trans out and put it in my 2007 convertible S4. I’m assuming with having the complete parts car, it should be fairly straight forward. Question is, do I need to swap the ECM and any other modules or is can the current computers in my convertible be programmed for the manual? I have an old Vag-com cable somewhere and I also have a bunch of newer OBD dongles I can use for programming.

I know for starters cab and sedan are not compatible as the wire harness are different.

You have to stick with either

Why converting a convertible to a stick shift? Convertible's are for sunny roads cruising. Buy a 2.0tfsi Q b7 with stick and upgrade to 350bhp, lighter and more fun.

Thanks for the response. I guess I’ll run a new reverse switch wire and a clutch wire for the cruise control, just gotta do some research into the correct pins.
Should I use the sedan manual ecu? I read in another thread someone mentioned having to swap software on their ecu in order to change the programming to manual.

You cannot use the sedan ecu in your cab.

You’ll need to send your ecu into jackal to have them code it for manual.
    It’s 400$

There is another guy who sent me some notes on how to wire it up like factory manual car would be.
I haven’t done it like that yet.
It would require a little bit of due diligence on your end to go through his notes and compare wiring diagrams.

    I’m working on a b7 s4
Manual swap on my personal car this time.
I’m thinking to wire it up like stock this time.
If you want to bounce some notes back and forth I’m totally down to go about it with you

perfect thank you for posting that. I want to make mine as factory as possible. I have the whole manual car harness, so maybe I can utilize it somehow.

    Manual swap in a 2007 S4 convertible

You need a manual diff. ( auto has different gear ratio)
But they are the same between cab and sedan

You need manual front axles, rear are the same.
    Manual drive shaft
    And manual diff/ tranny

And pedal assembly. , for this just swap the entire assembly over.

I’m in the same boat. Jackal just finished my ecu, should have it back by Monday. I’ve gotta do the timing job on my engine still, waiting for those parts to show up from AM tuned. I’ve got everything taken apart, just waiting on parts.
I’m curious as to why I can’t use the engine harness from the manual car. To reiterate, I have a 2006 s4 sedan that has the manual in it. I’m putting the manual into a 2007 s4 cabrio. I had a look at the engine harness on both cars and it only has plugs to do with the engine and transmission. Why would it matter if it’s a sedan or a convertible?
It would make my life a lot easier if I could use the engine harness off the manual car.

Sedan and cabriolet have different plugs
    I mean is it possible.
Maybe. But how much work would it require to rewire everything.

Take a look at the plugs and count the pin terminals each has

You are referring to the plugs that are going into the body? I'll take a look at those tomorrow

Are the subframes different? I had a look at mine and the automatic has mounts on either side, the manual one does not. The mounts appear to be welded to the subframe. Should I be using the subframe from the manual car?

You can use an automatic subframe on a manual car no problem. I would recommend keeping the convertible subframe on the convertible, since it has solid aluminum bushings.

Ok cool. Should I cut off the automatic trans mounts?

yeah if you like rusty subframes.

only if you plan on removing the whole subframe and having it powder coated after. any paint in that part of your subframe is going to fall right off.

Well I do have the subframe out of the car already, so it would be easy enough to paint it after with POR15 or something similar to prevent rust...

that's awesome, hopefully you got all the parts you'll need. I'm in the middle of doing my timing job right now... messing around with the cam phasers. My factory ones look OK still, but since I got new ones, I figured I might as well throw them in

Of course a couple of the bolts stipped out on the cam phasers so I had to drill the heads off. Hopefully can find replacement bolts locally.

also realized AMtuned didn't send me the valley pan service kit I paid for, so now I'll be stuck waiting for those parts. Very annoying

Yeah, breaking loose most bolts with an impact unless if they are big is a no-no that’s how stripped heads happen just FYI

Sometimes if they’re really stuck, I’ll even give him a couple wax some hard wax with a sledgehammer with whatever socket bit you’re using that seems to help

Found some locally. Cam phaser bolts are M6x1-30 if someone is looking in the future.

    B7 s4 coding (manual swap)

    It’s easy.
Once the ecu is coded to manual.

You need to first code abs module.

Go into coding. The soft coding original value is 4902. ( which is for auto)
You need to change it to 4901.

Then instruments , adaptations channel 60 needs to be changed.
Original value is 1175. It needs to be changed to 1173. Test it then save it.

    Easy shit.
    All done.
For the traction control light, just take the car for a drive and it should turn off on its own.

    Don’t stress. It’s that easy!!!
