I highly recommend getting an all metal heater core unit. I did a heater core job a few months ago. Wasn't a terrible job. I read through diy posts and watched many videos before I did my heater core job which helped a ton. One thing you DON'T need to do is remove any of the relay/wiring panels, the ones on either end of the vehicle.

This is the heater core that I bought. Here are a couple of videos I used as guides one and two. Like I said before. I watched multiple different videos of this job (like 10). Only remove what you need to. When I finished my heater core job, I didn't have any forgotten parts/bolts/nuts left. The only things that I had leftover were broken plastic bits.

If you’re thinking you need to replace the heater core because you don’t have heat, I highly recommend flushing it with CLR first. I have had total success with this method. Of course if it’s leaking that’s a different story.

It’s not that bad if you pull the whole dash out as one piece. Can easily be done in a day first time doing it. This is the video I followed

Unless your core is super clogged. I tried flushing mine without much success. So before this winter I said eff it and replaced the heater core as didn't want to drive in the winter again without heat. When I got the my old core out, I poured out the coolant and had very little come out, probably 2 ounces if that.
