Car was firing off a P2302 under spirited driving but would go away after I got to my destination and shut the vehicle off. This happened twice in 10k miles. Yesterday I got it along with some misfiring and stumbling. Drove the car an hour with the light on and you could feel it misfire under heavy load, under cruise control it ran smooth so limped it along. Got to destination and when leaving the malfunction light came with a check engine light. Car drove fine no stumbling but permanent P2302 code is stored and saw misfires in cylinder 1 and 5. I don’t think it’s the spark plugs are to blame as they were replaced at around 89k miles (car has 101k now) but I don’t know brand of plugs used. At around 65k miles the car had rings replaced to help solve oil consumption issue and it consumes maybe 1/3 quart every 8-10k miles (I’m on a 10k oil change interval). What’s throwing me is the “secondary circuit” language in the P2302 error code. Is there anything else that can be considered a secondary source of power to these coils that I should look at? The NGK iridium plugs at 5.45 per on RockAuto was going to just replace all 6 for peace of mind while I’m in there chasing the coil issues. Any insight on this one? I know how to trouble shoot the coils and plugs, move them around and see if the error follows, I’m more concerned with the secondary language and if I need to look elsewhere in the electrical, not just coils.
