High mileage 2013 Audi RS5, sell or keep?

    Hello!

I purchased a 2013 Audi RS5 with 135,000 miles back in 2022 and it's now at 158,000. I’ve been keeping up with the scheduled maintenance and have made some important repairs along the way including O2 sensors, HPF pumps, front lower control arms, valve cover gasket, brakes/rotors (front and back), spark plugs, and recently the 155,000 mile service. The car is in great condition; except for some recently discovered oil leaks that are currently being fixed (CCV cover, gaskets, and hoses are being replaced along with the lower oil pan gasket, and oil filter housing).

Overall, the car is pretty solid everywhere else and I've obviously invested a lot into it over the past three years (about 20k, parts and labor). I'm currently on the fence on selling or keeping it. So I’m interested if there is anyone in a similar situation that might have any tips on prolonging the life of the car past 200,000 miles, or should I get rid of it? Your thoughts are much appreciated!

    Thanks!

It’s tough because it depends how much you love it, at 158k miles you’ll only get in the teens for it if you decide to sell. But at the same time if you keep it and the cats or starter start to fail at any time then it’s an engine drop job I believe. But that’s a very hit or miss thing, you could be absolutely fine up to and through 200k miles! My only concerns on these cars regardless of mileage are the transmission-(mech,gear position sensor) starter, catalytic converter failure and once you get into injectors and other parts the cost adds up really fast.

You could always post the car for sale and see what people offer and if it’s at a point where people are offering what you wouldn’t sell it for then maybe just keep driving it and enjoy it!

Thank you for your thoughts! Still on the fence though. Does anyone else out there have any thoughts?

    Thanks!

So if you sell it for $12-15k, what are you going to buy? I guess that's how I think about it - it's this car (where you've spent all the money to keep it in great shape) or what is the next alternative? Your biggest risk is driving this until something big fails, then you sell it for $5k - so the risk is $10k (in my mind). I vote keep it unless you have your heart set on something and you want to spend the $ to make it happen.

Thanks, cts5 for your thoughts! If I sell, I'd pay off what I owe and wouldn’t get anything else nice, probably another beater for the time being, paid with cash, that gets me from point a-b and cheap to maintain. Then, in the future get another RS5 (maybe a 2015) with lower millage and an extended warranty plan.
I just wish I had invested in a warranty when I initially bought the car. I’m still considering getting one for it though. I was offered a 5yr/50,000 Superior extended warranty through Nova that covers almost everything for around 10k, which would give me peace of mind.

Sounds like you're thinking about it the right way. When I got my 2014 in 2024 with 16,000 miles, I got a Toyota extended warranty for $4k that "should" cover just about all of the expensive bits for 4 years/ 100,000 miles. Who knows with these things.

    Good luck.

4.2L V8. Don't make them like this anymore. I Drove a twin turbo V8 RS7 and the engine compression left me wonting. So the question is what would you replace it with?

2015 RS5: Mythos Black, Tech Package , Dynamic steering, Black Optics, Folding side mirror upgrade, internal LED lights, Eventuri Intake, Akrapovič exhaust, KW DDC ECU, lots of CF

I’ve decided I’m going to hold on to it. I’m just weary of third party warranty companies. Still considering Nova though.

Anybody have any good experiences with third party warranties???

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and opinions!!!

Go to your nearest Audi dealership.
Ask for the service advisor with the most experience/longest tenure etc. Ask them who has the best warranty coverage for 3rd parties. Who they deal with, who covers the most, etc.
