    Question Clutch upgrade questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys!

I am in need of replacing my clutch, and am looking at upgrading and doing all possible maintenance I can while the gearbox is out (within a reasonable budget).

I am leaning towards going with an 034 A4-to-RS4 billet flywheel + LuK RS4 clutch.

Firstly - what alignment tool do I need with that (does the tool differ between A4 and RS4 clutches?)?

Secondly, what other upgrades and might-aswell maintenance is good to do whilst the gearbox is out?

    So far I have determined:
    Rear main seal (034 upgrade)
    Throw-out bearing (034 upgrade)
    Shifter stabilizer bushing (JHM Upgrade)
    Gearbox mount (Apikol upgrade)

Do I need this rear main seal alignment tool? https://www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben...ool/lcb175sch/

Is there anything else I need and/or can upgrade (other than fluids & filter)?

I have considered the JHM shifter linkages, but $400 for those feel difficult to justify...

    What are your thoughts?

Slave cylinder and clutch line? The car is ~20 years old, so may be worth looking into.

Understandable. I only want to be in there once and not have to touch it again when I up the power.

Not sure if it’s something you’d consider but I have a new JHM SMFW I’m trying to get rid of and I’d almost certainly take less than what it comes to in any kit.

I run the set up you’re considering, OP. I used the clutch alignment tool that came with the Luk rs4 clutch set. You don’t need to buy a separate alignment ring for the 034 rear main seal, it comes with its own.

For the 034 rear main, there’s a channel on the back of it for rtv. I used rtv black along the channel and then on the flat bottom where it meets the oil pan. I wasn’t in a rush so I gave it a while to cure. No leaks after two years and maybe 3k miles.

I also used the oem pilot bearing ECS recommends for their RA4 clutch kit and not the one that comes with the Luk clutch.

    Pilot bearing: Genuine Volkswagen Audi - ES#: 279979 Mfg#: 06B105313D
