    Starter job replacement bolts

I think the s4 and rs4 starters are the same for the era. I'm doing for 07 rs4, using a valeo starter.

A few good videos for starter replacement, but nowhere online has the part numbers for the torque to yield bolts that need to be replaced during this job (Think they are for the engine mount bracket?).

So please, any info on how many tty bolts need to be replaced (Think was three, maybe two) and part #

Dealer diagram was not clear and parts people at dealer not helpful to figure out.

    Thanks all

Once I take apart I might know. This is the same diagram that the dealer wasn't able to tell me which are one-time use.

My guess was bolt 25, get a few of them so I can get on with it and not have to make an order mid job.

Maybe the replacement bolts are some number 3's? don't think it is those

I've heard over the years from various sources about, "the bolts that should be replaced during the starter job"

Maybe it is not that important to replace bolts? Although I've had bolts that look healthy snap on this car on reinstall so kind of...don't want to get stuck on jackstands with snapped bolts being re-used

    Starter job replacement bolts

you’re going to rip out the threads in your block or bell housing wayyyy before you snap one of those bolts. They’re not like those aluminum bolts allover the newer audis.

edit: just reread this and realized you’re not talking about starter bolts but rather about mounting bracket to subframe/chassis bolts. Yeah you should replace those, but it’s not the end of the world if you don’t. just when you go torque+extra turn, do about half the turn specified. You can always replace them next time you’re under the car.

I have subframe to chassis bolts on one of my cars that are 20 years old and have been reused over a dozen times.

I never replace bolts in that area, just re-use.

I came by this a while back, it shows the bolts that are recommended to change (S4): http://sandbox.enjoybeing.net/diy/S4/starter/

Thanks all, will update if the starter itself was my intermittent starter fix

If your car struggles to start sometimes in the cold then replacing the starter should fix the issue. It completely eliminated the issue for me.

Agree, it does it when warm in summer too

    Not the best one,
No need to take out the down pipe, just intake hose at the top for that reverse bolt.
Replace engine mounts at 50k? If they are not leaking or trow a code they are fine, leave them alone. Easy to replace afterwards if needed.

Its a lousy job to replace the starter but so rewarding if done. 😁

I agree. I remember questioning whether or not I still liked working on cars when I was doing this job. I know at least one of the bolts that hold the heat shield on was almost impossible to access. I was very rewarding though once the job was complete.
