Need a throttle body for RS4 (220k miles)

Hey all,

I'm perhaps nearing the end of my RS4 ownership around 220k miles, but hoping its not come to that. parts availability is getting to be too much work!

Can any of you help me source a replacement throttle body?

I'm open to GM equivalents and used parts if need be.

Should be "plenty" in your area through Craig's List and Offer Up. Would have to look as I can't remember if it was LS2 or LS3, I only remember it was on the Pontiac GTO.

I have had this throttle body saved in my Amazon wish list for a while now in case I ever need a replacement. I wouldn't have saved it unless my research showed that it fit, but you should double check.

So I did some digging, because now I am thinking I should purchase a backup to add to my spare parts heap.

I entered the RS4 throttle body part number 079 133 062 B which produced the below list. The Dorman throttle body I posted a link to on Amazon (part 977-820) shows that it is compatible with OEM part numbers 67-3003, S20002, 12570790, and 19420034. As you can see, both Opel and Chevrolet use part number 12570790, so the Dorman throttle body is compatible with the B7 RS4.

As an additional bit of confirmation, in the thread below a person confirms that the Cordone throttle body (part 67-3003) works perfectly in his B7 RS4. The Cordone part number is listed in the compatible part numbers for the Dorman 977-820.

I ended up with a Cardone remanufactured unit. Turns out the throttle bodies are indeed the same. They are manufactured in Germany by a company called Pierburg. If you go to Rockauto.com and search for 67-3003, you should be able to find it for about $220.

If you do go the Z06 route (which I cannot vouch for, but should theoretically work), be sure to get one with the silver throttle blade. They made a revision for MY09 (I think) where they changed the throttle blade to a bronze color, and the blade also opens in the opposite direction.

The Cardone unit is working fine on my car, and the shop that installed it tested it on another RS4 before installing it on mine.

I don't know how the part will be in terms of quality, reliability, but so far (fingers crossed) at $220 versus $1200-1400, I'm willing to go the cheaper route. Hope this helps anyone having throttle body issues!

At around 1:20 in this video I state the part number for the throttle body that has been working in all weather perfectly fine on my car for about 2 years now. It was not expensive, few hundred bucks I think on Rockauto at the time

Both part numbers S20002 and GM 19420034 that you mentioned in your video are listed in the compatible OEM part numbers for the Dorman 977-820 in my post above FYI.

Thanks all, that’s encouraging.

My mechanic said he wouldn’t put Dorman on his car unless he had to so I neglected to consider it at the time.

I ended up buying a used GM part from eBay, but will get a Dorman if that doesn’t work out.

Did he elaborate at all as to why he wouldn't use a Dorman throttle body? I was considering a Dorman throttle body if mine ever goes bad because Dorman touts how their design is an "upgrade" due to a seal they add to prevent the sensor from going bad, but I'll look into other options if Dorman products are known to be inferior.

Can anyone comment on how difficult it is to swap out the throttle body? If it is a simple procedure, I'd be inclined to get the Dorman and replace it if it ever fails, as two of them cost less than one of the Standard Brand S2002 models.

I've read that when throttle bottles have issues, most of the time a cleaning will solve them. Have you tried cleaning yours yet? How do you know you need a replacement rather than a cleaning?

What is the recommended cleaning regimen? I have come across a lot of contradicting methods esp. when WD40 is mentioned.
I fell the same way CoreyRS. A 1972 Superbee would be easier to find parts for than our cars.

The more reputable videos I found on Youtube recommended removing the throttle body from the car so the gunk doesn't go back down into the intake manifold, and to only use throttle body cleaner on both sides of the butterfly flap. I would also suggest using a MAF or electrical cleaner spray on the electrical contacts.

Dorman should be a last resort part brand. They specialize In making shotty parts that either break quickly or don't work at all new.

I installed an OEM GM 12570790 throttle body back in 2020. It was pretty simple...after I did the swap, I cleared the codes, did a TB alignment with a VAGCOM, and have put over 20K miles on it with no issues. Still have the car with 150K miles but it's been mostly parked since I bought a B9.5 S4 as a daily in 2023. I Paid $453.00 from First Choice Auto Parts, Just tried to to go to their website and all I get is a blank page so I don't know if they're still around. They specialize in OEM GM parts. The part is exactly the same as the OEM Audi Pierburg but cost 1/3 the amount.
