Toronto area immobilizer recommendations

After like 3 years of owning my car I just got a letter from the insurance company adding a $1,500/year “high theft risk surcharge “. Waived if I get an immobilizer installed. So…any recommended ones that play well with the RS6? and recommended installers in the Toronto area?

It has to be an aftermarket one that is 1) not visible and 2) requires a pin/code to start the car. Unfortunately car makers don’t go the added step to build this in from factory it would be dead simple for them….

Jeepers pair this with your guys million dollar policies and your insurance seems like robbery. Nothing else to add but that’s like Florida home owners insurance pricing everyone out. Good luck!

Car theft is out of control in the Toronto area.

Car thief's get caught and then they're instantly out on bail. Then commit the same offense over and over again.

In Canada, we're not allowed to defend our property. If we hurt the robbers trying to defend our property, we get charged.

I used them both...check if you can get away with just a TAG Tracking system. Its cheaper and acceptable for TD Insurance.

Thanks for the suggestions - just a heads up for others in Toronto, I have now had a few friends receive similar letters from their insurance companies (different companies and different cars) - so would anticipate this in your future if you have high end cars as theft is just out of control.

And FYI the Igla’s, Ghost’s, and can-phatoms are all on top of your existing security. You still need the factory key etc and can start the car, but without the code the engine will cut or transmission will lock. Helps prevent key cloning or a relay attack as the factory system in most cars turns out to be a joke, and this even helps with the now more common move of just breaking into your house and stealing the keys.

I am planning to get an Igla installed - will post back how the install goes.

The dealer pushed for their 600$ install of TAG, but when checked with Intact it was something like 100$ discount a year for Ottawa. (and that you can get it installed 50% cheaper else where)

Toronto might be different story.

Just to close the loop here - Had Number 1 Sound (on College) install the Igla and it all worked well (they also still charge the $1,200 MSRP while other places I called clearly have a “nice car tax” added to their price).

You can install it two separate ways (totally car platform dependent) and luckily we were able to set it up as desired with a transmission lock (much better user experience).

So if you are in the GTA and got a letter from your insurance company requiring this, so far so good on my end.
