    New to me 2009 S5 V8 6 speed

Hello everyone. I traded my 2013 A6 2.0t Quattro for a 2009 S5 V8 6 speed. The car sounds great and is pretty quick. My head did not prevail in this decision as the S5 has all sorts of issues I am going to be sorting through. Leaks oil from the oil pan, door lock actuators don’t work, back up camera doesn’t work, blind spot monitors don’t work. Every couple of days the check engine light comes on. There was a leak from the coolant tank that I have fixed. I am replacing the rotors and pads all around. I will be digging through these pages to see if I can get this thing up to what it once was. It’s a fun car, but let’s see if I can bring it back to life.

Congratulations! I understand totally your remark about making your decision. When I recently got my S5 I did not bring it to my mechanic, something I Always do. The power of these cars is amazing, and my wife even noted a unique energy. Enjoy working with her.

I replaced all the rotors and pads. I checked the PCV System as someone suggested (plenty of sucking when running and the oil cap is taken off). Could it be a carbon cleaning that is needed causing the issue?

Check your reverse switch (PN: 0B1941521B) for camera issues.

Thank you I will check that for the camera. Are you sure that’s the right part number for our car/engine? When I search it it says doesn’t fit my car.

Congratulations! How many miles on the vehicle? Ive got an 08 w/manual, had for 10+ years and it still feels special. Its been dependable, however it has demanded maintenance. Not an inexpensive vehicle, but worth it. Carbon clean made i dramatic improvement, as did replacing injectors and coil packs. Check for recalls if You havent already,(according to my memory)i got a new ecu and new cats. At 145k had to replace the manifold, butterfly valves started to fail. Oil leaks come with the territory, so far its been basic gasket replacement. Radiator is a consumable, and a likely candidate for the coolant leak. Back up camera- inspect the amp for signs of water, mine is currently at paulison corp getting repaired.

I think that Audi made great cars that are designed to give the driver a great experience while also testing the driver's real passion for their cars. I wish I was kidding. Best of Luck.

Don't give up now - you're so close! My 2010 S5 manual went to 145k of hard miles (110k of those from me driving like I stole it). At 145k it was time for new control arms, new clutch (the original didn't slip but was developing a shudder on hot engagement), new engine mounts (original). The engine was still 95% of original punch, and I'd never had a carbon clean - my indie shop said it didn't need it.

Point is, I had a lot of little annoyances over my 10 years with the car, the coolant expansion tank, the manifold runners, a vacuum leak, a HPFP... but with a good shop it really wasn't bad to manage at all.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement. It’s just frustrating that I can’t do anything myself on it. Everything you do requires coding or a dealer tool to read/diagnose. I am not finding a whole lot of help to any of the issues with the car.
