    Exclamation B9 RS5 with 034 two-piece rotors - Noisy as hell

Anyone else running 034's two-piece rotors on their RS5? If so, how noisy are they? I have them with Hawk Performance Ceramic pads and they make an incessant metallic buzzing sound when I drive. Braking performance isn't an issue but the noise is just annoying. I've had a local shop re-torque all of the bolts on the rotors per 034's TSB they sent out last year but that didn't fix the issue. They say it's airflow between the pads and the J-hook slots on the rotors. I'm not up to dropping more cash on new pads and I think I'm just going to live with it, but I'm curious to see if anyone else is having this problem.

I had the same issue with the J-Hook rotors w/Hawk Performance Ceramics on my '21 SQ5 Sportback. The noise did not decrease with more mileage or bedding-in multiple times.

I ended-up swapping them out for JHMotorsports 2-piece slotted rotors, and I used the same pads. No whirling/buzzing noise after proper bed-in.

Another alternative is Girodisc 2-piece slotted rotors ($$$).

My only thing is the money involved in a completely new set of rotors, but I might just do that at some point.

It's a known issue with the J-hook design. Not optimal for a street application since the noise bothers most people.

If I recall from another thread, when 034 was testing the J-hook rotors, they used the OEM pads, which according to them, did not create as much resonance/vibration as with aftermarket pad formulas.

Kinda silly - most enthusiasts shy-away from the OEM pads because they create way too much dust, for example.

My Girodisc rotors are quiet, with Carbotech pads, but the slots are only gently curved, not a J-hook.

I ended up going with Girodisc rotors too with HPS 5.0 pads because of all the noise comments with the 034 rotors.

Guess I'm gonna live with these and tell people "they're track brakes" until I can replace them with either Girodiscs or JHMs. I'm just surprised and disappointed that 034 thought this was in any way reasonable for street use.

since you already have the hats, you can get slotted rotors from the company that produces the J-hooks for 034. my j-hooks are noisy as hell on stock pads as well(b9 s4 but would make no difference on the rs5)

This is awesome. I didn't know these existed! I think that's what I'll do when it's time to renew my brakes. Thanks!
