    Whirring noise help! RS5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi Guys, I have a new whirring noise in the car (B8.5 2015) and looking for some advice.
The noise starts at about 15mph and gets louder as you get faster. it's not related to engine speed and disappears at idle, doesn't change with the different gears.
Almost sounds like a distant air raid siren or like wind blowing through a cracked window.

I've run a scan and these were the faults. Whilst I know you shouldn't have any faults, I can't see anything that would be implicated?
I don't think it's the PCV as there isn't really anything at idle. Wondering if it is a wheel bearing, hoping not mechatronic

2015 B8.5 RS5, 67,000 miles. Video is the best I can do but you can't really make it out except the change in town at 30 seconds.

Lots of fault codes there. Have you tried clearing them all recently and re-scanned after a drive to see what comes back? Could the noise be something as simple as a tire issue? How old are your tires? When did the issue first appear? What tire is on the car?

I will try clearing them for sure. The first one is just the valved exhaust was unplugged and the last one is jus tthe reversing camera needs calibrating

The tyres are new this year though have done 5 laps of the Nürburgring.

The TPMS faut is new though and it did come up the other day to say pressure loss but they were all fine. Would that suggest bearings?

67k is relatively low miles for Wheel bearings but a couple of hard laps on the Nurburgring would definitely put a strain on them, some high speed cornering along with a couple of rough road stretches on that track. My personal claim to fame is that I took a Ford Transit Van on the Nurburgring back in 2004, befor Jeremy Clarkson and Sabine Schmitz. What brand are the tires? How do they look? Does the sound change if you swerve left to right down the road? With the double roller bearings like on most newer cars you don't really get the play in the wheel from bad bearings like you use to so that isn't a valid check anymore.

The tyres are michelin Ps4, brand new before the nurburgring.

So i took the car to a mechanic and he agreed wheel bearing but couldn't quite locate which one. Put the car on the ramp and put it in drive (pretty scary). Front right wheel bearing was toast. Changed it out and good as new. Also fitted the non resonated capristo at the same time. Good thing we changed the bearing before otherwise there no hearing any strange noises one the valves are open!

How was the van around the ring??

The van handled like crap but it was an interesting drive. A few months later I paid for the Ring Taxi and got to do the passenger run in an M5. Oh, by the way congratulations on getting it fixed. Things like that can definitely be annoying.
