    2014 S4 Premium Plus - DSG - [Pics] 1,500 on Valvoline 5W-30 Restore & Protect

Recently started using Valvoline Restore and Protect (5W-30) here in the colder months, just to see what happens really. No real reason as the car burns NO oil between. 2-3k OCI. But when i did the valve cover gaskets when i got it, there was a heavy varnish that i wasn't crazy about and wanted to see what this could do…. (Might have to redo driver VC gasket…)

The good, my WIX filter does a great great job, at the first oil change with 1,500 lets see what i “caught”! I was truly surprised as i never see much because of the short OCI i run in all my cars.

Even running recommended Audi oil change intervals, I wouldn't expect to find too much in the oil filter. There shouldn't be much in the oil if the motor is healthy.

It looks like it's working. I too wish they had a 5-40. Many cars have "recommended" oil changes. The problem is that over miles carbon and coked oil builds up between and under the rings. This decreases ring seal and only makes the process happen even quicker. It works it's way to the oil rings and cloggs the drain ports.

My car took 90k to start using oil. I noticed using a quart before my normal 5k change. By 150k it was using a qt every 400 miles. The more oil is held in the oil rings and the slower it drains just allows it more time to break down and coke.

I had to do two consecutive soaks and flushes to remedy the problem. simply shortening the intervals will not clean this out. I was adding a massive amount of fresh oil and it didn't help anything.

This oil says to change every 4k and that is very short for a synthetic oil. It's because they know that clogging an oil filter is a possibility. You wouldn't want to run this oil for 10k in a higher mileage engine that's for sure.

I'm running Valvoline Restore and Protect 5w30 for both the 2013 Q5 3.0t and 2013 S4. Q5 is now on it's second oil change with it and the S4 is on it's first. I will say that the Q5 is feeling very happy since it is driven more than our S4. Idle is smoother/responsive, and just went through my first oil change ever where I didn't need to top off.... It maybe could have need a 1/4 of a quart but I think this is more to some minor oil leaks (guess upper timing covers). I to have noticed how much dark the oil filter is. As long as this is a slow progress cleaning, I'm really excited about it. Before I was running the Valvoline 5w-40 Euro and that alone was dramatically helping with oil consumption. I was adding may 1/2 a quart between 5k mile oil changes. Prior to that I was 1-1.5 quarts top off with Liqui Moly 5w-40 and for at least my Q5, that was still after a PCV replacement. I'll likely go back to Valvoline 5w-40 Euro when summer hits unless they come out with at 5w-40 R&P version. That all said the only down side is that they aren't in the VW502 spec. So we are risking it.

Bumping this to see if anyone has updates, or if anyone else is trying this oil in a 3.0T engine. (I wish they made a 5w40 since I live in a warm climate)
