    B5 S4 & RS4 Bolt Torque Specs Reference

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey folks! For a while now as I build my RS4 conversion I've been putting together a spreadsheet of all the bolt torque specs I've needed throughout the full rebuild process from essentially a bare avant shell. Over the years I've written these down through previous builds and lost the papers I wrote them on, looked them up over and over, then still had to dig deep spending a ton of time on some that are less common. There are various sites I have bookmarked that contain quite a few torque specs in spreadsheet formats as well, and I've pulled some numbers from those. I'm definitely not the first to take a crack at this! I'm crediting who/what I can at the bottom of this post. Most of the rest I've pulled right out of the Bentley manuals or scoured various forums for and created the following Google Sheets spreadsheet:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...NvYv_5vdhi9OI/

This should be read only access for anyone with the link. I've done my best on the descriptions and also have everything in both ft-lbs and Nm. Included some bolt sizes and notes as well, but a little lacking in that department currently.

This is a living document, so as I work through more and more on this car, I will keep adding more and more bolt torque specs as required. The spreadsheet updates immediately with changes unless you have an offline copy saved. I'd also love to collaborate on this, so anyone with questions, comments, notes, corrections, or further specs you'd like to see added... just post in the comments here in this thread and I'll do my best to make changes in a timely manner!

At some point I will be going back to organize these specs all into related sections/components of the car with headers for each section so it's a little easier to find what you need (vaguely sorted right now). It's by no stretch of the imagination complete and final at this point, so bear with me while we slowly improve it over time. Enjoy!

The "Front end links to sway bar" should be 40Nm + 90deg.

The torque is the same for both link bolts (link to bar and link to LCA). There is an addendum of sorts in the Bentley (section 40-11) that explains how this was revised from 100Nm down to 40Nm when they moved to the rubber bushed links with separate hardware.

Most people will probably realize this torque seems inappropriate for this small (M8?) bolt when installing, but still I think worth updating the reference.

    Updated, thank you!

Think I recall finding multiple numbers for this one in the past and yes, 100nm sounds pretty excessive. Confirmed it's an m10 bolt.

For sure, happy to share it with the community! Stay tuned and I'll post updates on this thread when I make major additions/changes.

If anyone has any they want to add, just post here and I'll verify then add. Or if anyone wants numbers for something not listed, then also just post to this thread and we can research and crowdsource the answer then document.

Whole thread is just dedicated to nuts and bolts torque specs, so fire away!
