Trunk Latch Microswitch

I recently replaced my trunk latch solenoid since the last one was slowly dying. Now my trunk latch 8E0827566 microswitch has gone bad. This part is the small rubber pad that sits under the trunk lip between the license plate lights. It seems in the B6, there is that part AND a microswitch that slides into it. For the life of me I cannot find the part number so I can order just the switch. Seems newer models has the switch built into the whole assembly.
Does anyone have a part number for this?

Edit: From looking at the aftermarket assemblies it looks like the switch is integrated into the panel. Short of pulling the trunk apart, I'm confused as to if there really is a replaceable switch in there.

Edit II: Answering my own question here but its part of the harness. 8E0971145. There is no plug on the microswitch. Seems the aftermarket combines it all into one assembly where your factory harness plugs into the entire trim piece w/ integrated microswitch.

I'll take some pictures of the inside of my gutted trunk lid when I get home. Uhh... if I remember. I'll try to get some angles that could help you. I need to paint the cage anyway... this will help me find the motivation to do that.

Thanks! No rush. I think I'm going to take a stab at one of the aftermarket assemblies. I'll keep my stock one as a spare.

It almost looks like the harness plugs into the lock. I've got the thing right in front of my face and I can't come up with any other explanation.

Oh, here is the plug. On the back. Just a little four wire dealie.

Thanks Mike! That was FAST! Did that plug come off from right behind the rubber pad grip or did it go into another harness? Looks like there is some variation with those assemblies. Either way they all have that 4 pin plug. Some seem to go straight to the assembly and some plug into a separate harness that feeds the license plate bulbs and and switch.

In that last image, my finger is pointing at the back of the assembly at a chunk of plastic/port thingy that comes off at an angle. The wire I have up there plugs in there.

In the second-to-last image, you can see it too. It was a bit blurry in that image though.

Timing was coincidental. I was going out to do some paint prep on the roll cage and literally anything I could find that wasn't paint prep was a welcome distraction.

Hi Mike,

Are you sure your switch (8E0953229) is bad? Did you check it with a multimeter. Handle Part Number 8E0 827 556

I thoughy my switch was bad but it was the trunk wiring harness to the body has a broken wire.

There's nothing wrong with my switch. I just don't use it anymore. Maybe you mean ye1low?

Yea I think you were referring to me. I am 95% sure my switch is bad since I recently replaced the solenoid and my key fob and interior switch work just fine. My next step was to pull it out and test with a multimeter. Either way, once I go in there I would rather have parts on hand than to put it back together and wait for another weekend when I get the to do it all over again.

You beat me to it. If wires aren't completely broken yet, they probably are getting close.

You know, I thought my wires were probably all toast when my own trunk latch stopped working over the summer, but it turned out to be the little servo motor thingy was just jammed. As I've torn this car apart, the only body wires I've found to be kind of crummy were the front door wires. Maybe the Avants fare better in the trunk?

Also, it just occurred to me that I was assuming ye1low has an Avant. We might have completely different switches. I still hope the images were helpful!

This makes a lot of sense. I've got the sedan so probably slightly different assemblies. I'll pull mine later this week and take pictures. I'll update what the fix ends up being.

Maybe your wires are fine, but my '05s were not. My trunk release was getting progressively less reliable, until I found the trouble.

slice that trunk grommet down the middle and take a look. I doubt your switch is bad. That pic above is literally every single a4 sedan that's more than 15 years old. including mine.

If for some reason your switch is bad, go to a junkyard and grab a handle assembly from a q7, the old one like 07-12ish. They come with a backup camera! downside is you lose the key hole, but backup camera though!

Thanks for the reply guys. Gunnarr I actually have one that I bought from Aliexpress years ago that has the keyhole AND a back-up camera. I'm still on stock headunit so I never really had a need to install it. Surprisingly after my drive home yesterday the handle worked like a charm. My issue is sporadic and at times it seems like the car times out the rear switch if I don't start the car or do some lock -> unlock procedure.
I'm going to pull back the wiring cover after work to see if that is the case. Is the break usually on the hinge side or past the grommet and in the trunk area?

The main problem I have had with the trunk latch over the years is the plastic coating on the latch 'hook' part that articulates gets nicked and hangs up when it tries to move.
This has happened on every Audi I've owned (about 16 of them)- mostly A4's though. The A6 doesn't seem as prone to it.

If you hear the solenoid TRY to move but the latch isn't releasing or it bounces when you shut it, inspect the hook and see if the plastic is hanging up. I've used the aftermarket latches, they seem fine. And the microswitch IS replaceable, it's the same as the ones on the door latch if I remember right.

My broken wires were in the flex-area (hinge side). To make it easier to work on repairing the wiring, I removed the trunk panel covering the harness so more of it could be passed through the grommet-hole.

HAHAH!!! That's GREAT motivation right there!! I'll take that bet but don't want to deprive you of such a lovely piece of hardware. We can do a gentlemens handshake and see where this goes.
