    2025 Audi S5 (B9.5) Coupe - Rear seat area clicking/rattling noise

    Hi Everyone,

I just picked up a new 2025 S5 (B9.5) Coupe a week ago and I noticed a small clicking/rattle noise seemingly coming from the rear seat area. Besides this one noise the car is silent. The sound is most similar to a clicking of a zipper on a coat when you shake it. Any thoughts on possible solutions would be much appreciated!

I have also been following the below threads for guidance with no solution to my problem besides taking it back to the dealer.

    So far I’ve tried:
    - driving with the back seats down (no change, maybe a bit louder)
    - making sure the rear seat belts are rattling (no change)
    - closing the seats back with a microfiber cloth in between (helps slightly)
    - inserted paper in spots I think could’ve caused this noise (no change)
    - ensuring everything in the trunk is secure and not moving including the jack (put a towel down to prevent movement but no change)

Congratulations on your new S5! You might try having someone (with good hearing!) sitting in the rear seat to help determine whether the noise in emanating from the driver or passenger side, or the center. Perhaps having weight on the rear seat may diminish or eliminate the offensive sound. Does the coupe have the seat passthrough for skis or similar long items? And if the noise can't be isolated in the rear seat area, perhaps that volunteer would be willing to get into the trunk and listen from that vantage point. Obviously he/she shouldn't be claustrophobic! Looking forward to your update(s) on the resolution effort! Good luck!

Thank you! I forgot to mention I already tried that and they weren't able to pinpoint where the sound was coming from even sitting in the backseat unfortunately. Yes, I can put the rear seats down for skis or similar long items. I haven't tried someone in the trunk yet but it sounds like its coming from the rear seat area as opposed to the trunk. I might be wrong on that though.

Small update: I did notice that after driving around a bit more and trying different things,*closing the back seats with a microfiber cloth in each seat (one on the left side and one on the right side) has been the best solution so far to both dampen and reduce the sound. I do still hear it from time to time but seemingly less frequent. Obviously, I still haven't been able to pin point the location but hopefully this means I'm getting close.

Hey guys - For anyone still following this thread I have a few updates. It turns out it wasn't the rear seats at all, it was actually the sunroof that was rattling and making the clicking noise. I took the car to Audi and just got it back. Their fix was to lubricate the sunroof and apparently that solved the issue and they couldn't replicate the sound anymore on subsequent test drives.

Unfortunately, since I got the car back the clicking sounds from the sunroof has actually gotten worse. Not sure if anyone has had this issue before?

    Hopefully final update.

I got my car back from the dealer and I believe a similar fix was used, they mentioned they installed insulation between the headliner and sunroof frame only on the specific side that had the issue (left front) as it was metal clicking sound.

I found similar results as I believe 90% of the noise is gone and I still hear it a tiny bit sometimes if I really listen in but we’ll see if this changes over time and as the temperature changes.

I'm glad you have it mostly resolved after all this time. Thank you for the update!

I hate clicking noises with a passion, they drive me completely insane!! This cars have a couple of notorious place where clicking can occur. The front cupholders rattle a bit when you put a water bottle or a can inside of them, mine is the passenger side that rattles, the driver side does not? Also, the passenger seat belt buckle when not in use will hit the plastic side of the car and rattle a lot, it sounds like the noise is coming from the back but it’s actually from that side. A piece of noise cancelling material taped to the side of the seat where the seatbelt buckle rest solved my problem.
