    Wagner gen2 S4 intercoolers VS OEM RS4 B5 intercoolers

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I currently have an STG3 B5 setup with an OEM RS4 cooler installed. I got an offer to buy an S4 Gen2 Wagner cooler. It's a bit cheaper than the market, but still really expensive. My car cannot output more than 430 horsepower because of the heat at the turbos. Is throwing that much money into these coolers worth it, or should I stay with the RS4 ones?

Couldn't find info about S4 Wagner gen2 vs RS4 coolers, so sorry if it was already discussed.

    Thanks,
    Benj

I doubt any other actual data exists, because it’s not very easy information to pull together - many variables

Thank you, good sir! Based on that, the Wagner S4 cooler is not even better than the OEM RS4 coolers. Wow...

    Wagner gen2 S4 intercoolers VS OEM RS4 B5 intercoolers

Seems like negligible gains if any by swapping from the RS4 to the Wagners. Trading flow for temp benefits.

Bench tests are not to consider as RL.
RS ICs when installed to S4 doesn’t get needed exposure to cool airpath.
Where Wagners do. They are designed to fit perfectly to S4 body.
Also, RS ICs are usually in bad shape after 20 years of use, where Wagner are brand new.
In the end, non of S4 IC options are good for anything above 500 mark. There is just no space. Best to go custom Fmic or full blown cutting n rebuilding to fit Wagners largest coolers. This where things actually flow n cool even at very high hp.

Thank you guys for the information. I think I will stick to the RS coolers. Maybe installing Water/methanol later, but mostly to keep the engine cool, not to gain HP.

I modified the car front part where the radiators sit (dunno the English name of it), so it's fully visible, and modified the RS air ducts to match with the S4 bumper + removed the fog light, and Modified the Grills in the Bumper (it changed my oil temperature actually, didn't check IAT at that time)

Here is a pic about the cooler:

And here is about the bumper:

The results shown from flyboy are a mix of bench testing and road driving experiences. Flow testing was done on the bench. Temperature performance was from road testing across various vehicles and setups.

OP, while the Wagner IC is a nice product I highly doubt you will see significant difference by transitioning to them over the RS4 coolers you have.

This is a long standing debate.

Short answer would be - you will not see meaninful gains with S4 version Wagner.
If you built new setup - i would suggest going Wagner.
There are other ways to make more power with stock S4 motor.
Change Cams, lower your dynamic CR, bump your Octane. Those will do much more then changing ICs, or just dyno it in UK. They all get 450-470 or even 500 on k04s on stock motor n pump petrol, lol.

keep in mind your intercooler connections will be different between the wagner s4 and the oem rs4 - tte sells adapters, I grabbed a set to mate the v2 wagners with oem rs4 bi-pipes.
