S6 exhaust options? Too loud currently

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

My 2013 S6 came with catless downpipes and some kind of custom exhaust with an X-pipe and no resonators or mufflers. Obviously it's very loud.

Does anyone have a good setup that would be relatively cheap/easy to get an exhaust shop to do?
    Current:
    2013 S6 DS1 tuned: SRM +4 turbos, downpipes, etc
1995 UrS6 Avant: Euro bumpers, forged internals, EFR6758, KW coilovers, ec
    997 Carrera

    Past: UrS6 x4, RS6 manual swapped, B8.5 S5, other dumb cars

Since it's already a custom set-up, maybe just taking it to an exhaust shop to put resonators and mufflers back on? That would be the cheapest/easiest way vs catback. Resonators are useful to reducing drone in the car. Both would aide in making it quieter

There is no need for an X-pipe on a turbo car - typically done on NA cars for scavenging exhaust gas pulsing, which you don't need to worry about on turbo cars (straight pipe is proven best for turbo cars) . Only purpose on turbo cars is to change the sound.

Since you’re running a v8 you should consider the vibrant ultra quiet resonators in the factory location ( under driver seat area ). The regular shape bottle resonator likely won’t be enough. Do you still have your original quad tip rear mufflers? If not you can probably get some used ones from eBay and regain your valve control that came with your car from factory. I wouldn’t delete the xpipe unless you’re going to replace it with a dual in dual out resonator. There are many brands to choose from just be sure it’s a packed resonator. You could technically weld in any kind of resonator right before your exhaust tips if you don’t want to buy OEM used s6 mufflers and or don’t care about regaining the ability to switch between quiet mode and loud mode. It wouldn’t be crazy to get a different shape / brand of resonators for the exhaust tips if you do pick the vibrant ultra quiets for downpipes.

ECS Tuning (Wild shipping prices) sells exhaust mufflers. But that's costly. The best bet is sport OEM mufflers and reintroducing the muffler valves back into the equation. Cold Starts will continue to be brutal but should tone down the sound by a lot.
Stock mufflers work well for killing exhaust volume.

I just had the JHM three-inch mid-pipe back valved system installed and OMG is it amazing!! It has a sound that is like nothing I've heard before and isn't loud at all (very deep tones). The kit is a direct bolt-on and comes with everything you'll need to install in your garage.

Sorry, I forgot to update this. I added some Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonators and it definitely toned the sound down some.
