Help with storage compartment left of the Steering Handle

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I mistakenly put some coins in the left storage compartment and they have managed to fall through the crack around the hinge area and now making clicking and rattling noise while driving. Very annoying to say the least.
Any one have some diagram/manual how to remove the flip door so I can get access to the under side and try to fish them out?
    Thanks!

This happened to me a couple of years ago with a credit card. I looked up how to remove the door and I recall that it required taking apart a part of the dashboard in that area. I ended up using a flash light, coathanger, and fiber optic camera with a light to fish the card out from the crack.

I am afraid I am in a little deeper trouble since a few coins have slipped in that crack and I can constantly hear them. If there is a way the flip door comes off it may give me some access where I can use coat hanger etc. to pull the coins out. I just do not want to take off any large price of dashboard as it may never go back the same and introduce even more rattles down the road.

Removing the lower dash / knee bolster really is not a big deal and goes back in place just fine without new rattles.

    Had anyone done this?
Looking for some instructions or drawing how it comes off etc.

I do see 2 bolts on each end but I also see air bag listed on the same cover. Not wanting to activate it.

You probably want to download the service manual. I think it's $50 for one day's access to the Audi service website.

If anyone has access to service manual, will appreciate a couple of screen grabs of the section on how to remove the cover panels of underside of the steering especially the storage compartment. See the pics attached to the OP. The sound of coins hitting other metal parts under there drive me crazy so I want to dive into and get it fixed but afraid will break some clips etc. in the process. Thx!

The side cover just pulls off and then you just snap it back in place to put it back. Nothing to take apart.

In that case I may not need to remove rear section under the steering which has the storage compartment built in.
I need access under storage compartment where the coins are sitting and rattling and perhaps just removing the side cover provides that. So using some prying tools snap it off near the clips?

    Thanks @Jroyalty7 !!
I was able to just remove the side cover that only has clips. I removed the 5 bolts holding the bottom cover but it was needed to get those 2 pesky coins.

Been there as well. Nothing is as annoying as a rattle. I took mine to my local window-tint/stereo installer and he fixed it in less than 30 minutes. Those guys are adept at removing all types of interior dash and trim pieces since they do it all the time. It's not that difficult if you know what you are doing....I didn't. Charged me $35 which I would have paid even if I knew what I was doing just to keep from scratching my hands up navigating those tight spaces. But lesson learned, I keep my peacemaker in there now and my change in my pocket.
