What a familiar sight! Welcome and congratulations! Love to see an Allroad 01E being used for your swap, too! Look forward to seeing your build.

    Stage 3 here we COME!!!

The findings of the teardown. When I purchased this car I was told the top end just had a fresh reseal and the timing belt and water pump was replaced not long ago. We found different !!!! Stock water pump and a barely tensioned belt !!! And leaky Mcleaks all over. Pretty bad when people are not honest !!!! Well onward and upward fresh parts it is!!!

Jeez! That reminds me of the water pump job on my RS. It had a sticker it was changed at 95k by a "reputable shop". At this point, it was leaking, and I was pressed for time, so sent it to the shop. All the bolts were way over-torqued and every component was literally no name. No branding, no scratched out rings, nothing. They had to use an induction heating tool on the bolts and even that took a lot of time to slowly work to get them loose without snapping. And the leak actually was coming from the freeze plug of all places.

Told the previous owner and he was shocked because it was not an insignificant amount of money he paid.

Dang man, that looks pretty bad for the song they told you. Maybe they got taken for a ride themselves, but it still sucks to find all of that. You’ve got a lot of work and elbow grease ahead of you.

This kinda just gave me PTSD.

Did you have a hard time sourcing a clutch switch? And did you get an early pedal box or late pedal box?

Interested in how you did the wiring too. My 05 Allroad is a swap supposedly done by audis4parts, but cruise control does not work. It thinks the clutch is forever engaged in that respect. I have not done much digging outside of removing the switch to verify it's not bad via multimeter.

If it’s stuck switch or wired in a way that it thinks its pedal depressed always it should start without pushing the clutch. There is also a check in vcds to see the pedal status.

Early pedal box. Swap kit came with both clutch switches and brake light switch with pigtails.

Nice! I have a buddy who just flipped an 03 and the late style pedal was a PIA, he put 5 masters in it, and finally swapped out to an early B5 pedal.

    AudiS4Parts.com for the swap?

Audizine member provided this kit! I did use a AudiS4Parts.com swap kit when I built my allroad. Phil was very helpful answering many questions thru out the build process. I'm very happy with it after 2 years and about 10k miles.

Car does indeed start without the clutch depressed. I did check with VCDS to see what happens when I press the clutch, and it's at that point the values go to 0, telling it the clutch isn't pressed. Something's backwards. Here's the setup:

I've removed the lower switch and tested that one via multimeter, and it is good. The upper one I have not touched, and hence I was interested in the wiring.

Sorry OP if I'm derailing your thread.

No worries, we're here to build fast cars and share the information.
In your pic it looks like 1 wire on the clutch position switch is connected to 12v on the brake switch. That wire should connect to ground not 12v.
The clutch switch with the red plug is the clutch position switch for the starter interlock relay. It has 2 wires. 1 wire connects to ground. The other wire connects to the brown/white wire on J207 the starter interlock relay. The relay is in position #4 on the Fold Relay Panel buried behind the Micro Central Electric Panel under the dash. It's a pain to get too.
The white switch is the cruise control switch. It also has 2 wires. 1 wire connects to pin #39 on the ECU the other wire connects to a switched 12v source. I just ran a short jumper over to white wire on the brake light switch for the switched 12v source.
    Cheers mate

Thanks! Appreciate the explanation! I agree--it looks like it's going to that white wire. Different (better?) view:

Looks like I will tackle this when I pull the uprights to do the wheel bearings. Trying to wrap up work on enough of my garage to get cars back in.
